Lippmann's Nefertiti and Believe

I know Deb Lippmann is persona non grata in the nail polish community but I can't help myself. I love her polishes! Or rather, I love the Lippmanns I own! (I have no time for her frosts.) I have been almost uniformly happy w/ them. I'm even one of the weirdos that finds merit in Funky Chunky. I've worn it as a mani a few times and I run around begging ppl to look at my nails (most are nonplussed by my antics).

I learned a valuable polish lesson w/ my first Lippmann order: Do not let group think sway me too much. As I was putting together my order I asked ppl which polish I should get - Nefertiti or Believe. I love golds but they never look good on me. I thought Believe would be a nice metallic with gold-tones that would compliment me. But true-gold Nefertiti was sooo beautiful and it was much more popular. Of course, since it was more well known, ppl responded w/ Nefertiti. And that's what I got. I regretted it as soon as I applied it.

(3 thin coats)

This is made up of gold and silver shimmer. It applies very nicely and would be opaque in 2 normal coats. Dries quickly.

I take most of my polish photos at night so here is a day time photo to get a more accurate idea of what it looks like on me (pictured w/ Zoya's Yasmeen).

(3 thin coats).

This is a champagne metallic. It applies (and behaves) pretty much exactly like Nefertiti.

Daytime pic

I think this is just such a pretty and feminine color.

This is a pic of my rarely seen, often used right hand. My left hand fell victim to some impromptu swatching. This is after almost 48 hours of wear and there are NO signs of decay.

P.S. Today is my birthday and I'm giving myself the world's best birthday present; I'm going to South East Asia for 3 and half weeks. I leave in a few days!

Happy birthday! I have to disagree with you, that Nefertiti looks GREAT on you.

Nefertiti 1st looked a typical gold polish, but the close up of it is very pretty! the silver shimmers make the polish very unique! :)
and happy birthday to you. have a great one!

What a wonderful birthday present. Happy Birthday to you and many more. Enjoy yourself and be careful. Take lots of pictures that I hope you'll share with us. Love Nefertiti but it does look a little funny with your coloring. I think it makes your skin look a little waxen. Maybe it's the lighting. Sorry, I don't mean to offend.

Halifax - The plan is Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos

ThinWoman - Thanks! You know, it doesn't look half bad in the flash picture but I swear to god, in person it is... notsogood.

Gilded - They are really great polishes. And Thank you!!

Alexa - That's exactly why I did closeups. Their specialness is in the texture.

Lucy - Thanks!!! I plan to share a bunch of photos. I'm excited. I completely agree w/ you! It just makes me look weird.

Danica - Get thee to an e-tailer that sells Lippmann (but not her website) quickly! She has some great ones. Thanks!

Happy Birthday! Which e-tailers do you recommend for fellow Canucks?

Tabula - Thanks! Since I live in the US, I am useless regarding e-tailers that are good for shipping to canada. I'm sorry! mKat (another PoP blogger) might know tho! I'd recommend clicking on her profile and e-mailing her. Sorry again!

Great colors. Why is Lippmann persona non grata in the np community?

D:) said...

She created a nail polish called funky chunky that the super majority don't like. She made a screeching blog post about how to apply her polish properly. Most of us nail folks did not take kindly.

I'm a much bigger fan of Believe than Nefertiti. I think the latter is pretty, but I have never liked the way it looked anywhere but the bottle! I LOVE Believe though, it's one of my favorite colors. It's subtle enough that it doesn't scream bling, but glamorous enough that it just always makes me feel good!
