These polishes cost $1 each. And I'm not sure they are worth that much.
E.L.F. Plum
Jelly plummy purple shade, almost brown if I got it opaque. This was three coats and was very sticky. It might've been improved with some thinner but the brush was so cheap that it resembled a broom. A big broom.
E.L.F. Hot Pink

Three coats, more of a hot coral jelly than a hot pink. The brush was actually not horrible for this one but the color didn't seem exceptional to me, either in shade or in application.
This was a gorgeous, rich chocolate brown polish (and yes, worth $1). Again, brush like a broom. But two coats, perfectly opaque and glossy. For that, I may be willing to brave the broom brush again. :P
...so my verdict is that I'm probably never going to buy any E.L.F. polishes again. I'm glad I got to try them out though: who knows what $1 brand will turn out to be fabulous?
I haven't purchased any of this brand, even though I see them here and there. Thanks for the heads up on the brush and application; I wouldn't get them now unless I saw a spectacular color that I just had to have.
ReplyDeleteAnd you're right; I have gotten some $1.00 or less stunners, and it's always a little bit of a thrill!
I have 6 ELF polishes that I haven't tried. I grabbed them up at Target after the holidays when they were on clearance, lol, so, 6 polishes, roughly 3 dollars spent. I'll probably end up swatching them then giving them away because I opened one up, saw the broom, rolled my eyes, and threw it back in my box in an unceremonious fashion. I'm such an elitist sometimes ...
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried their polishes but I have tried their makeup. Nothing from their $1 line impressed me, but their studio $3 line was actually really good, especially the make up brushes. They are having a 50% sale right now so I'm about to go haul again. :)
ReplyDeleteI quite ike their polishes, I think that their bet color is Royal Purple!
ReplyDeleteWet n Wild has some good colors for $1 and NYC is good for nail art. Been curious to try ELF though I'm not sure I will after reading this.
ReplyDeleteElf actually reformulated their polishes and the brushes. Much better better now and they're only $2 a piece.
