Let's face it - Chanel has been setting nail trends for several years now. I feel like there is even a special kind of regret in missing out on a Chanel limited edition polish - a regret that people are really cashing in on on eBay ($300 for Jade? No thank you!).
So this is my attempt to stay one step ahead of the trend! Sephora by OPI ($OPI) Havana Dreams:
A step ahead of this future trend?:

Chanel showcased a creamy powder blue polish with their breezy, beachy fashions at their Cruise Collection for 2011. No word on when this is going to be released, but I know that when it comes out, I'm going to *want* it. Sephora by OPI released Havana Dreams - which looks to be a similar light blue to the mystery Chanel.
The formula was rather runny so it required 3 coats, but wasn't chalky at all. As with my other $OPIs, I think application will improve greatly with the addition of an OPI ProWide brush, like I did with Metro Chic here. I'm not sure about it on me - I know it's pastel, but it is so out of my comfort zone I have a hard time gauging whether or not I can pull it off.
So what do you think - trendy triumph or baby blue blunder? Is it worthy of a ProWide or should I throw it back into the swap pool?

Nice colour :)
ReplyDeleteI think it's a very pretty color for Spring! I'm with Danica on this one; CHANEL is way behind on the Baby Blue trend. I think we could find many dupes...
ReplyDelete@Danica & Tasha - Oh I'm with you guys - it's not like baby blue is a new thing! But I think that whenever Chanel promotes a colour seriously, all of a sudden the 'normies' find it acceptable and chic. At least that's happened to me a couple of times - I've been wearing a colour and a lady will knowingly say to me "Chanel ----?". I'll say no, its OPI ---- and she'll make a face and walk off. But initially she thought I was cool! Definitely a lot of dupes/substitutes out there - but this is the one I chose.
ReplyDelete@Spaceinvaders - thanks, love!
I love this. I've seen a baby blue in Avon for £3 and will certainly be investing in it! Boooo to the people that pay ridiculous amounts for Chanel on ebay!
ReplyDeleteI actually like this. But will all the pretty baby blue polishes out there, I wonder how Chanel can make theirs unique and worth $23.
ReplyDeleteI just picked up a Brucci baby blue the other day with this same idea in mind! It wasn't a color I'd normally pick, but I just know once it's all over the Chanel ads I'll be itching to give it a try. If Chanel expects me to shell out $20+ for a bottle of polish, they'd better make it dupe-proof!
ReplyDeleteI like the color on you, but my tastes are similar to yours and I'm not sure I'd be comfortable wearing it either. I think it'd be a great toe color, though. I remember wearing Essie St. Barth's Blue on my toes years ago and I loved it.
ReplyDeleteIs it just me? Am I the only one who thinks Sephora by OPI is a tad expensive?
ReplyDelete@Tilly - Ugh I know...evil bay is a place of...well, evil.
ReplyDelete@belle - I am curious as well! I'm betting nothing special...
@Grace - Exactly!! I normally wouldn't be all over baby blue...I guess I'm not the typical "blogger" in that I don't usually pick those colours. But I confess to being a slave to Chanel, and I know I'll want it. It doesn't seem dupe-proof at all so I think we are beating the system!
@Katherine - I'm still not sure how I feel about this, but I bet once the Chanel comes out, I'll want to wear it. I am lame.
@Ruthiessrocks - You are correct ma'am. Expensive. I am lucky I had a gift cert!

I like the color, but on my screen it doesn't look that different from China Glaze For Audrey. I'll pass.
ReplyDelete@Ruthlessrocks - Nope, you're not the only one!
FingerPaints Blissfully blue is a great alternative if people are looking for a baby blue!
ReplyDeleteI think it looks great on you!
ReplyDelete@Zara - In person its a lot less green than FA
ReplyDelete@Adrienne - Yes indeed! Thanks!
@Jen - Thanks friend :) I think a lot of people misunderstood my reason for this post :(
