NOTD Rescue Beauty Lounge 360

Feel better, Flinty!

This is a quick post today. My presentation is tomorrow and I'm kind of freaking out. The hubby is on his way home and we're going to eat junk food tonight and watch movies while I finish up this disaster of a presentation. :) Any recommendations for a nail color that inspires confidence and calm?

It's been raining for the past few days so all I have are shady pics, I'm afraid. This is 2 coats of 360, which applied like a dream.

Outdoors:

It is not quite as blue as it appears in my pics. It has a more grey, green tone to it.

Indoors (a little more color accurate):

Thanks for looking!

P.S. Do you guys eat cookies? A colleague gave a presentation today in class and brought in cookies. I was the ONLY ONE who ate a cookie. Everyone else was eating grapes and carrot sticks and they looked at me like I was insane for eating a cookie. I think they're all into organic food and vegetarianism (nothing wrong with that of course) so I guess I'm the freak. Are all people in academia like this?

This is just gorgeous!!! And perfect nails to boot!

Also I think it may be a female thing - my male lab mates will stuff whatever food is put out down their throats until it is gone, whereas the girls will only pick at it and stare condescendingly at you if you take the food. Ah, women.

ARGH commenting is being screwy for me!

I'll eat cookies. Nom nom nom nom.

Colour experts (I guess) say green is a calming colour. Maybe a pretty spring green?

What is ironic is that if that is the case, I'm in a Women's Studies program which is predominantly women...and we're all supposed to be "enlightened." LOL. :)

That kind of reminds me of Barielle's Slate of Affairs.

I'm wearing Recycle by China Glaze and I'm finding it quite confidence-inspiring and calming - I do have a Konad pattern over it from this video though; I don't know, it feels sophisticated ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPxXVG7uxgs

I'm into academia, vegetarianism and as much organic food as possible; I also eat cookies, especially huge double chocolate chip ones with melty gooey chocolate bits dripping from them. In fact pretty much only that kind, plus of course the Smarties ones :D It seems even the "enlightened" women of the academic world are pretty stupid sometimes ;D

Aaargh - I meant to say good luck, too! Sorry :)

I don't think it's just a female thing. I know a lot of academics who are vegan/vegetarian/organic food peeps. But (and this is just my opinion) this is part of what "performing academia" is to me. Most of those people will also happily scarf down a pizza. :P

That colour is absolutely gorgeous. How do you get such a great space at your cuticles?

Beautiful nails! And a lovely colour. Don't stress about the presentation too much; I find at least sounding confident and convincing is half the battle. I also have a presentation tomorrow that I'm dreading. It's outside my usual area of interest, and I'm not terribly pleased with my analysis. *fret*

A question for you ladies: do you feel the need to wear more subdued polishes when at school, especially if presenting/teaching or meeting with professors? I always feel self-conscious if I'm wearing bright/glittery polish at school. Therefore, tomorrow's manicure for me will be something subtle. I'm thinking Commander in Chic (the Sally Hansen one), which I've been dying to try.

BTW, I really, really love this blog. It's my first time posting here, but you might hear more from me. As a fellow polish addicted academic I can relate to many of your experiences.

Best of luck on the presentation tomorrow!

Oh that looks great on you! I'm so sad I didn't get a chance to hit up RBL when I was in NY for a conference. Oh well.

And hoo boy, cookies don't last long in our dept. People (faculty, staff, students...) will eat pretty much anything, which makes our Christmas potluck pretty great.

@Vandal, I def. feel the need to tone it down. Not so much if I'm just working, but I never wear brights/glitter if teaching or presenting. I'm wimpy that way... You can actually predict how much work I've done that week by what colour I'm wearing. If I've done tonnes of work, I'll wear something more obvious to my meeting w/ my supervisor. Neutrals mean I've done less than I think I should. I've been wearing a lot of neutrals lately...

Do I eat cookies?!?! Let me just tell ya...There aren't enough Girl Scouts with cookies to satisfy this cookie monster.

In actuality, I've already been through 5 boxes of Caramel Delights/Samoas, and I am on the 6th box.

@Skulda: Yep, that's what I thought too! I put on a frankened green. :)

@Apaige2u: Aw, thanks so much! BTW, I love your blog!!

@WizardsOfBling: I agree, it was very serene! It kept me calm this week.

@mKat: I use the MeganChair tutorial! It's been a godsend.

@Vandal4890: I actually don't feel the need to subdue myself. Then again, I also have a nose piercing and refuse to take it out ever. :) I'm in Women's Studies so it is a particularly casual field and I never feel the need to "tone it down." Now, a job interview or thesis defense is a different story...

@The Glitterati: Just wait for the big RBL sale coming up! I think Ji said August?

@Laura: mmmmm I love Girl Scout cookies. Thin Mints all the way!

Most of those gals who stand around nibbling at carrots and grapes and glaring at anyone who eats a cookie in public probably go home and scarf cookies in private.

Who doesn't eat cookies?!?! I love cookies! I think calming colours are dark green or dark blue.

love the color! good luck on your presentation. and yes, i eat cookies...and cake...and chocolate...pastries...basically anything delicious. my office is a constant parade of sweets and other goodies. maybe your class just didn't want to seem like "people who eat cookies." but really, where's the fun in that?

At one lab, the PI brought fruit to presentations but my labmates and I agreed that cheese or cookies would be a welcome addition. On most afternoons, around 3pm, we could count on a tray of cookies outside the auditorium for visiting speakers, so that's how we got our cookie fix.

At a different lab, the PI always had a sack of Oreos on hand. So trust me, you are not alone.

As for calming colors - I find pastel turquoise to be calming, but I get a special jolt of confidence and a little thrill from bright orange red polish.

Its very pretty and yes I eat cookies.

cookies....yum....

I would go for the cookies as well, obviously, and the carrot sticks. They are nuts for not eating the cookies. Unless they have an allergy or something, of course. I just found out I am allergic to pretty much everything that is yummy, so please do indulge in the cookies and I will enjoy them vicariously.

I'm a Pharm.D. and I eat cookies. Females in my field are split - some of them will tell you to your face that you're fat and therefore are eating that cookie because you're too stupid not to, while the rest will say "Ooh, what kind of cookies are those? Awesome!"

Wrote a long thought about popular cookies and snob carrot sticks... and then lost the whole thing.
While I'm a little tired to start again, I will only say: I think that pastel colours are calming, specially blue.
best wishes for tomorrow.

I live close to (roomies usually students) a University that's very left wing, vegan, freegan whatever and they're all like that. Organic... it's tiring

I know vegetarians/vegans don't try to be this way, at least most don't, but they act like they're above you and snotty. My experience. I can't wait til the big RBL sale. I'm not missing it again!
