Since the weather can't decide whether it wants to be icy winter or full-blown summer, I thought I'd wear a colour that can't decide either - Essie Island Hopping.
The name suggests a tropical hue, but the murky purple-taupe-brown of it all just says fall/winter to me.
I didn't even realize that it coordinated with my Juicy Couture Ikat scarf so well!
A confusing colour for confusing weather! The formula was absolutely fantastic - a dreamy creme! I'm really liking this one a lot, and I can see myself wearing it often - in all kinds of weather.
Do you have a polish(es) that you wear rain or shine?

Very flattering!
this color really cant decide..i have one and it is A LOT more mauve then this purpleish. it looks nothing alike!
It's a pretty color, and super flattering on you, but the Resort collection just isn't wowing me this year like it did last year. I guess it's because it doesn't seem very "resort-y". I actually try to wear extra bright colors when it's gloomy outside, in hopes of perking myself up. Rain and gloom in NYC are just awful, because you can't stay out of it! You have to just put on wellies and grab and umbrella and make a run for the subway stations, so I always wind up soggy and frizzy. I like to at least have a cute manicure!
Oh, wow! I love it. I probably never would have picked it up without your swatch. Looks great on you.
@Piff - Thanks friend!
@Lauren - Ahh yes. *Everything* pulls more purple on me because of my strongly yellow skin. So it probably looks a lot more purple on me than on most people.
@Sia - Glad you do friend!
@Grace - Oh this isn't from the Resort collection - its from a summer collection from ages ago! I think wearing a bright colour in bad weather sounds great! Maybe I'll bust out Silken Cord soon...
@Melissa - Thank you! I hope you like it!

Pretty color! I don't really adjust my nail polish to the weather, but I won't wear a very bright color on a rainy day. :D
Love this colour :)
I love this color, it's not one I see too often on blogs so it's refreshing to see! I was confused about the name, but then pictured a socialite hopping from island to island on a private plane or something. A socialite who would scoff at a neon lol. This is kind of a sophisticated color! I like to wear a dusty blue (like MAC Blue India) with the in-between weather.
Hi k2k: How it matches your scarf is amazing! It almost reminds me of Sephora by OPI, "Don't Go There, the muted lavender shade. However, I beleive Sephora by OPI is not as brown as this color.
Anyway, I love this purple/lavender shade and as many have already said, it's very flattering on your gorgoeus nails!
Love,
Mc Huggs :)
@TheNailAddict - I typically don't either, but I might try it after Grace's description!
@Jo - I'm glad! I do too!
@GothanPolish - Ooooo I love this imagery!! Now it makes more sense. :) I could see this with some Michael Kors "jet set" fashion. :) And you're right - dusty colours are perfect for in between weather...I think I'll break out my OPI Parlez-Vous OPI? soon!
@Geo58 - Hello my friend! It definitely has the same kind of feel as "Don't Go There", but you're spot on - this is more brown/taupe! Good eye!

A very nice colour indeed - it looks like it should be similar to other polishes, but I can't think of any that I have... Despite the recent dull weather here in the UK I've been wearing bright stuff - but now the sun has been out for a couple of days and I feel vindicated!
I love the way all the polishes look on you! What's your usual polish routine? For example what base and top coat do you use? Do you buff the nail surface and push or remove your cuticles with every polish change? Sorry for so many questions. I recently discovered this blog and have become obsessed with my nails. I'm currently wearing Essie Coat Azure.
@Andy - I agree, it looks like it should be dupe-y, but it is nothing like anything in my stash! And go you with your brights!
@longnumberperson - Hi there and thank you for the compliment! I'll tell you about my "typical" routine - there are different variations of top/base coat depending on polish or my nail conditions, etc. BUT:
Base Coat:
Barielle Natural Nail Camouflage or Hydrating Ridge Filler (I alternate)
Top Coat:
Seche Vite
Barielle Manicure Extender as a refresher
I never buff my nail surface. I do the whole complete manicure routine with cuticle removal/pushing every other colour change. If you have any other questions, please email me at polishorperish@gmail.com (attention to kittytokaren) and I'd be happy to go into more detail!

I LOVE this color! So pretty! I fiend for pretty much anything with Ikat print too. I would love to have some furniture upholstered in Ikat.
Very pretty shade on you. I have to buy this one. Your scarf is really pretty also.
I'm back. I like this color so much that I had to check the swatch again. It's definitely going to the top of my wish list. My rain or shine polish is RBL Recycle. It's been my go-to color since I started collecting. It's my verdant palette cleanser, and I'm on my third bottle. I'm sad that it might be discontinued unless it wins a spot in the next "bring it back" vote. I know there's a few similar colors like it, but Recycle is wonderfully creamy and is the perfect shade of medium-dark green.
@faeriberry - Oooo I'd love a cozy armchair in the Ikat print!! I have another Ikat scarf on the way to me in a different colour too :P So glad you liked this polish, I'm really loving it. RBL Recycle is so pretty! It's like the perfect green. You definitely need to stock up! I'll vote for it in he bring it back vote for you, since I no longer buy RBLs for myself. :)
@Lucy - Thank you!! And I'm totally obsessed with this scarf!

i have it on my nails right now and i think it's absolutely gorgeous! especially in only two coats, when it's not so dense, if you know what i mean :)
