Trying pink: OPI conquistadorable color

I have a confession to make: I don't own pink nail polishes. I have enough greens to build a pile the size of a small car, but about two pinks, and they are of the 'not quite' pink variety. Perhaps it's my natural tomboy-ishness, perhaps it's the fact that as a blonde, 'ample' researcher I'm already conscious of trying not to draw too much attention to the fact that I am female. But I am trying to branch out, and to that end, it is my mission over summer to buy and wear more pinks. I need no encouragement for the first part, but the second may prove tricky.
First up is this one: OPI conquistadorable pink, from the EspaƱa collection. God, this is gorgeous. Two coats - although one would have probably sufficed if I was less cack-handed - and no topcoat required for a super shiny finish. The colour is a deep red/berryish pink (it's a perfect match for Illamasqua 'Drench' lipstick, shown above, which pleases me). My boyfriend swears it's a red, but to me it definitely looks pink (and probably a bit more fuchsia than this picture suggests). But regardless, it's a perfect pop of colour for summer.

This manicure may look a bit grotty: it's been on a week. A week during which I started a new job (seconded to a 'real world' research team for three months as a sanity break from the PhD) and have been typing non-stop. I was also without access to a camera during that time, hence the late and rather dark picture, for which I apologise. But I'm really impressed that there's only a bit of tip wear after all that time. So, thumbs up! This is definitely in the 'keep' pile.

I'm not much of a pink fan either, but somehow I still have at least 10 of the little critters in my stash, even though all of them are rather tame. No hot pink cremes for me. Nevertheless I catch myself wondering what something like that would look on me and I've ordered a coral polish(though I'm seriously starting to wonder where it's being held up) as a first step :O

It looks pretty red to me O.o Kind of like how ChG Heli-Yum borders on pink and red. I'm not a huge pink fan either but I've been thinking about branching out too :)

Thats a gorgeous shade!

It's actually called "Conquistadorable Color" and it's a red. You know, like a conquistador's red cape?

@Meeka, Mississippimama - it's definitely pinker than it looks here. Like I say, I'm a little scared of full on pinks so I tend to go for in-between shades and I'd describe this as 50/50 red/pink. I don't think it's anywhere near as red as the capes I've seen in paintings, although I can't say it's a period I'm very familiar with at all. And sorry for the typo - I did get it right in the header, at least!

I'm with you on the greens. I also have a ton of pinks. I can understand why you don't want to be so "girly". You can wear pinks on your time off. I like this shade on you. Pretty.

You sound like me - I also seem to try to hide the fact that I'm female though I'm neither blonde nor ample - and I don't have many pinks - and I also have a great pile of greens. You might cut the boyfriend a little slack - the vast majority of men are colorblind. And how do you type with those nails? I have to nubbin mine down :-( I'm enjoying your posts!

@Lucy - thanks, quite right too! I'll just have to acquire some pink things to wear it with...

@marsha - the other half is actually into painting, so he's quite colour aware. Although I found this one looked red indoors and pink outdoors (maybe the yellow in tungsten light was doing it?). And funny you should say that, I just filed them. The keyboards I use at home are flat-ish so nails don't get in the way, but work has the standard recessed PC keyboards and typing is a pain!

I own and love this color too! When I'm putting it on it's dark pink but people always say, "oh what pretty red nail polish!" It's such a unique almost red, pink :)
