Something for the interim - Essie Armed and Ready

It is now the middle of winter. Fall and winter collections have long been out, but we won't see anything new for spring for a while - not that I'm super in the mood for spring anyways. But still, this is that dull time of the nail polish year where nothing is coming out that has me salivating. I'm not sure how, but Essie sensed this void and filled it with a fabulous little mini collection called "Go Overboard". It consists of three colours - a lilac, a teal, and this little number called Armed and Ready. I picked mine up at Target!

Please excuse my horrifically dry skin. I am super super dry, especially in winter. I happened to catch the light and decided to snap a pic for you anyways in the hopes of showing off the shimmer in this polish!! It is very subtle in the polish and hard to capture in photographs, but I quite like it that way. The base of Armed and Ready is a murky cool olive green. The closest thing I have in my collection is Essie Power Clutch, but that is more cool toned and grey where this has more brown - but still isn't overly warm. What makes this polish sing is the restrained helping of golden or coppery super microshimmer.

I like this polish quite a bit - it's neutral, while being a bit of a statement. It's tough and rugged, which makes it a nice contrast to feminine winter sweaters.

Have you picked up anything from Go Overboard? Any suggestions for a super hydrating body or hand cream for winter - I would love any recommendations!

  1. I swatched Go Overboard and Armed and Ready yesterday here: http://glittershewrote.com/2012/01/16/swatched-essie-go-overboard-armed-and-ready/

I prefer Go Overboard, but they're both great polishes!

Ditto on the dry winter skin, and boy does it stand out in close-up nail photos! I really like Ahava Mineral Hand Cream...I should go get some more of that ASAP!

  3. Beautiful polish ! I swear by Vaseline Healthy Hands & Nails (in the pink bottle). It rivals expensive hand moisturizers !

  4. I have been looking everywhere for this! It's lovely! My target never gets the good polish displays :( I'm hoping I can track it down before it runs out.

  6. I'm a big fan of the Crabtree and Evelyn hand creams that come in an aluminum pump bottle. You can often find them at TJ Maxx or Marshalls.

  8. I love colours like this. essie is so hard to get in the UK, but I would totally seek this one out. I always use nivea creme on my hands and Lush Ultrabalm on the really dry bits. I am a moisture FREAK and pretty much have to moisturise constantly so I need the stuff that hydrates most.

  9. The best hand cream for my hands during our blustery Midwest winters are l'occitaine hand cream(pricey) or eucerin dry skin therapy Plus intensive repair hand cream(more reasonably priced) Both moisturize deeply without leaving ur hands greasy felling.

  10. I found this collection at Walgreen's a few days ago, but the only one I purchased immediately was the purple. I might get the other two as well, but I haven't decided yet.

  11. I have very dry hands too and have tried many things. I just ordered some Bag Balm (yes the one for cow udders) because I heard it was great from a dermatologist. Can't comment personally yet.

  14. I don't have this yet. It's gorgeous. Love the shimmer in it. I have a wonderful cream from Camille Beckman. It's a silky body cream in the fragrance Camille. A friend bought it for me quite some time ago. Very moisturizing. The fragrance is delicious smelling. If you like fragrance that is. I just went to camillebeckman.com to order.
