A lot of big "meh": some LA Girl Glitter Addict swatches

I really love LA Girl polishes. They are generally inexpensive (especially if you catch a good Cherry Culture deal) and awesome (even if a little slow to dry sometimes). So I was ecstatic when I heard about the Glitter Addict collection. Ordered the whole thing on impulse before I saw many swatches. And I'm kind of annoyed at myself because now I just have a lot of new layering polishes (and I don't really like layering polishes). Without exception, all the glitters are suspended in clear jelly.

LA Girl Synergy over Orly Frisky
Gold hex glitter shows up as kind of holo in the bottle but is very sparse. And the holo doesn't really seem to show up unless in direct sunlight. Two layers.

LA Girl Celebrate

Celebrate... what exactly? Sparse multicolored small and large hex glitter. The above is... I think it was five layers? At least it was interesting to look at and might be cute over a black or white polish.

LA Girl Euphoria over Sally Hansen Lavender Cloud
Lavender glitter with lavender and holo hex glitter. This one looked fabulous in the bottle: the combination of lavender and holo was stunning. On the nail, not so much. Four layers.

LA Girl Flamboyant over Orly Fresh

I actually liked this one a lot. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's because it looked like an ordinary orange glitter/orange hex glitter combo in the bottle and maybe because by this time, I had my expectations dialed down to zero. So when this came out looking as expected (two sizes of sparse orange glitter), I wasn't disappointed. Four layers.

  1. I know just how you feel--it seems like I'm always disappointed when I order without looking at swatches first... :(
I ALMOST ordered some of these too. Layering polishes aren't my fave either; I like to just polish and go. I've been buying a LOT of them lately, though!

  2. I have Celebrate and I love it, I wear 1 coat over bare nails and it looks so fresh and fun! Sorry you're disappointed, that's not fun :(

  3. I bought Celebrate because it looked so pretty in the bottle. Got it home, swatched it and said, "Are you freaking kidding me?!" Sparse glitter, gluey, clear base....if it hadn't been so cheap, I would have returned it.

  4. I think Euphoria is a really nice color-- but $OPI has a similar purple glitter called Sugar Plum Fairy Gone Wild that has much better coverage. SPFGW is my favorite glitter bomb. Ever.

  5. I'll definitely stay away from these. They're not so hot.

  6. 5 layers?! These are some sparse glitters. Thanks for the review!

  7. wildheart: it always makes me sad to be disappointed by new polish that people haven't really been swatching yet... and annoyed that I didn't have the patience to wait.

Stacy: I think I'd like it much better if it weren't so sparse... :(

Jenny: Me too! Their polishes are often pretty good (like the Rock Star collection, or Disco Brites), and I think they're usually a great example of lesser known, decently priced, cool nail polishes... but not these.

    Bubblewrapper: Yep. Yep yep yep.

Ariel: Sugar Plum Fairy Gone Wild? I'd buy that just for the name. How do I not have that one?? Love the glitterbombs!

Lucy: Yes, don't be like me.

Lacquered Lady: Yep, 5. I was going to try to see how many it'd take to become opaque but, umm... I got bored.
