I really like RBL's newest blogger collection. I entered at the time with a mallard duck inspired green glitter fest, but I'm so glad that the submissions that won did, because I think they're all awesome and original. BUT. I can't afford $20 a bottle plus $19 shipping. Super nice though they are, that is quite a lot of money, and I'd honestly rather spend it on
So, I have been on a mission to try and find polishes with a similar 'feel', if you will. Scrangie swatched some comparable blues with IKB 2012 and has made me very tempted to buy Orly Royal Navy, which is supposedly a pretty close match, despite the shimmer. I've also picked up Nails Inc Baker Street (which I saw on Beyoncé and loved...don't judge), which will be up later in the week.
For your viewing pleasure today though is Models Own Indian Ocean from the new Beetlejuice collection, over CG Four Leaf Clover. I really liked it - even though it's nothing like Aqua Lily, because FLC for some reason went really green with the Models Own over it (it's still turquoise around the edges where it didn't get coated...weird, given the MO is blue-based).
Gorgeous, but I wanted to see if I could get a bit closer to the inspiration. So I took the ring nail off and tried it again over CG For Audrey. I love how the orange/pink shimmer shows up over the green, and the pink/purple over the blue, although both are more complex and multifaceted in the flesh. Very cool. I kept this on a week, I was so enamoured with it, and it wore like a champ. £3.50 nail polish for the win.
*One of my very favourite TV shows, along with The Thick of It and Father Ted.

Oh my god it's just fascinating
Indian Ocean looks a lot like a franken I made with some car pigment: http://labmuffin.blogspot.com.au/2012/02/notd-green-purple-duochrome-franken.html
I want to ship some over so you can do a swatch comparison... is that crazy? :\ I kinda just want to force my stuff on everyone. You should hear my conversations with the bf: "LET ME PAINT YOUR NAILS DAMMIT THIS IS A DEAL-BREAKER"
I don't usually care much for the formula in Orly polishes, but I have Royal Navy and it is very very nice, especially for how cheap it is compared to some brands.
Nina - I think nail varnish is, but I'm probably weird.
LabMuffin - car pigment?! OK, now you've got my attention - we should do a franken-swap or something. I'll try and find something even more outstandingly weird to put in a varnish bottle so we're even. I'll email ya!
Courtney - I don't like the orly formula either but the cheapskate in me looks at their 18ml bottles and wants to buy them. I've always been one for quantity over quality...
PS - sorry I didn't do clean up - I can't believe I didn't check how bad it looked before I took the photos!!
I love both combinations! However, I did bite the bullet on Aqua Lily, so I will have to "settle" for that :p
Orly Royal Navy is fab! It's one of those shades that's hard to resist looking at when I'm wearing it. SO BLUE.
There is so much pretty here I can't deal with it! The color is fascinating, I kind of want to buy six and try it over every polish I own (that could take weeks). I'm not normally big on pinks, but I love the way it contrasts with the cooler colors.
I LOVE Blackadder and Father Ted - two of my fave shows for sure! I'm honestly ashamed to say I haven't watched The Thick Of It, In The Loop is one of my favourite films...I feel like a dick. I'm definitely going to have to find it somewhere!
I love this look! Your nails are fantastic!
Very pretty! :-)
LitLaur - Enjoy! I'm sure you're not too disappointed... :p I will definitely have to sag the Orly, I think. I'm obsessed with blue.
FedoraHarp - I had the same inclination. I don't wear pink but as a top coat it's so cool. I'm still seeking inspiration for the next combo.
JadeyLou - oh you must track it down! It's amazing. I recently introduced a friend to it and he insisted on staying until 2am to watch them all.
OPIAddict - thanks, sorry about the mess!
Elaine - thanks :)
Oooh, I have been lemming this for a while, now I know it's versatile with layering... even more so! thanks for posting x
