Taking a crack at cobalt - Essie Mezmerised (aka Mesmerize)

I think the theme of this polish year for me is "finally!". I've been finally trying things I've always wanted to, but didn't take the plunge for some reason. This is definitely one of those. I've wanted to try Essie Mezmerised ever since it was called Mesmerize - before the Essie drugstore revolution, that is.

I've always wanted a lovely cobalt polish, and I've considered this several times, but always decided it wasn't exactly right. And it isn't exactly right. The cobalt I envision is a little deeper and brighter. But no matter, I'm still glad I finally got my mitts on this polish - it is lovely! A gorgeously formulated creme in a colour that is bold, but not too crazy, and can work for tons of seasons. I think I'd even love it on my toes.

All in all a success! But does anyone know of something a bit deeper/brighter? I'm still on the hunt for the perfect cobalt!

  1. My favorite cobalt right now is Nails Inc Baker Street. It's brighter and more saturated than Mesmerize.

  2. I was just about to suggest that - I've got it on now and will be posting it next week. Lemme know if I can help you snag one.

  3. OPI Dating a Royal is *slightly* more saturated, but... while you're on the "trying new things" kick... it might be worth checking out China Glaze Bermuda Breakaway. It leans a little more towards indigo than cobalt, but it's probably my favorite blue cream. Rescue Beauty also has a KILLER blue cream in their fan collection, IKB:2012, which should be on sale some time this month, but it'll cost you about 4x as much as the CG.

  4. Oooh that looks really nice! I've heard Revlon Royal is a nice jelly cobalt-ish blue, it's an untried of mine (d'oh!), but it might be too royal and not enough cobalt for you.

hope you are having a good week lovely!

  5. I love this but I get you, I also thought it would be a bit deeper. My fav deep blue, although not cobalt, more navy is China Glaze First Mate, amazing shade

  6. I have Mesmerize on my toes now. I was wearing Revlon Colorstay in Indigo Blue on my fingernails a week ago. It's very saturated and a similar blue. There are pictures on my blog. :-)

  7. Revlon Royal is certainly a bright cobalt color, but I do find that is chips very easily, even with Seche Vite over top.

  8. I received "mesmerized" for Christmas and I'm loving it. It looks great with silver accents, add some polka dots and it looks spunky. For New Years Eve I topped this shade with Sally Hansen's "Glass Slipper". It was a fun combo. It's a pretty versatile blue. :)

  9. The perfect deep, bright, cobalt blue for me is Sally Hansen Xtreme wear in Pacific Blue. Its magnificent!

  10. Thanks everybody for your suggestions! I'm checking them all out! You guys are the best!

@Grace - You are spot on with the RBL! That's the colour I want, but I do not want to support RBL by giving them my money. Too bad for me this time, because its the perfect colour!

  11. Barry M has a STUNNING cobalt blue polish!! It's deep and vibrant.....I think you would love it and it's what you are looking for.

  12. I was gonna suggest Baker Street too, so I think you should get it... *uses enabling smile*. lol. And I'm with you on not supporting RBL. Overpriced, and not worth the drama. And I still think the price raise wasn't necessary, unless my bottles have diamonds at the bottom that you can only find after you completely use up all the polish.

  13. I have Revlon Royal and it's lovely. Two coats of it might be what you're looking for, three coats beings it closer to navy. It's jellyish though, not sure if that's what you're looking for. Scrangie compares it nicely to RBL IKB:2012 here:

  14. So pretty! I might try getting into blues soon, but it always seems to make me look jaundiced :(

  15. Barry M Cobalt and Essie Mesmerize are dupes so I would not get that one. :) I also find Revlon Royal to be chiptastic even though it is gorgeous. If you have Orly Royal Navy, don't shake it for a while and you can get a jelly-like polish with almost none of the turquoise shimmer in it...

  16. Definetely, Nails Inc Baker Street will fit the bill of what you're looking for.

  17. Thanks again to everybody! Because of all your recommendations, I picked up Revlon Royal at the d/s today and the colour is *perfect*!! If I really like the colour on me, I will probably hunt down some of the better formulas that you all suggested.

@Jacqui - Thanks for that comp - it sold me.

@Janelle - I'm glad I'm not the only one disappointed with RBL!

  19. I found the perfect dupe for Nails Inc Baker Street. It's KIKO Electric Blue (#336), and it is IDENTICAL! I've done a side by side comparison post on my blog if you are interested.

  20. you have to try the pure ice polish in french kiss! it is a beautifully bright, saturated blue and, unlike many of the pure ice polishes, it's opaque in one coat and it wears really nicely - especially considering the $2 price tag! i really think you will love it.
