Another Crack at Cobalt - Revlon Royal

Thanks to fabulous PoP readers responding to my first cobalt post featuring Essie Mesmerize! Because of all of your suggestions (specifically Indoor Kitty, nailspiration and Jacqui), I indeed found the perfect cobalt colour! With one caveat...

This is Revlon Royal. It is undoubtedly gorgeous, and EXACTLY the colour I was looking for...but the formula is horrendous. HORRENDOUS! Not in that it is difficult to apply - no, that is fine - but in that it chips in about 2 nanoseconds. Which is very odd as polish does not tend to chip on me quickly. I tried several base/top coat combos and had the same issue every time. A first-world tragedy.

So I went back to the drawing board (sadly) and tried another reader suggestion...any guesses as to which cobalt I tried next? It's a winner...and you'll see it soon!

It's so weird how different polishes work on different people. Royal works fine on my nails. I wrap my tips and use seche tho, so that definitely helps. Such a pretty jelly. Glad you found something else that works for you :)

that's so strange.... i've never had problems with "royal" chipping on me. but i always wear sally hansen's "pacific blue" underneath to hide my vnl. hope you find a good one, because it's a beautiful color!

I'm going to guess Nails Inc "Baker Street". And if it's not, you definitely should try it.. I know I've been itching too! @_@

Royal is fine for me too. Unbeatable, I'd say.

Very beautiful polish!

This is pretty, sad it's bad quality. My guess is Dating a royal perhaps?

Shame it didn't work for you, because it looks great! I had issues with Royal's formula too. As far as your next cobalt goes...Nails Inc. Baker Street perhaps? Or OPI Dating a Royal?

That stinks about the wear time. Such a pretty color. Is Nails Inc Baker Street the next cobalt? It's my favorite for sure.

I smell Baker Street!!!

I'm crushed that the formula didn't work on you sweetie, sometimes chemistry isn't on our side. Hope you are well out there!!!

love the color! its a shame that the formula wasnt the best. i have had issues with the quick try revlon polishes too.

Have you tried NYX Girls Ink Heart? It's very similar to Royal, but not so jelly-like.

@Nicole McMerrick - Ugh I'm so jealous it works for you! Seche Vite + wrapping tips is my standard for manis so that's what I tried first :(

@kate- Hmm maybe adding some "underwear" would help - worth a shot, thank you!

@screamviolence - It's not the Nails Inc! (Surprise as that is most people's guess!) But now I'm really tempted to try that one as well....it seems to be a cobalt fan fav!

@jaljen - Jealousssss....the colour is so fantastic.

@zebra nails - thank you@

@hermetic - Nope! I don't think anyone has said it yet!

@Naz - Ahhh ok good so I'm not the only one! I was starting to think I was going batty. And nope neither of those! But from all the recs I think Baket Street might be a must-try.

@Katie - Another vote for Baker Street! *counts pennies*

@Indoor Kitty - Ugh the chemistry really wasn't on my side at all. :( So odd because usually it's just not an issue for me. I'm doing OK! Surgery next week! Keep your fingers crossed :) I hope you're well too my friend.

@Niki - It's a bummer about the formula - it applied just fine though! I'm glad to hear you had troubles with the Top Speed Revlons too (not glad you had troubles, just glad I"m not alone/crazy).

@Kim - I have not! I wonder if my Ulta carries it...they seem to carry the most random NYX stuff - and usually not the things I want!

Try Spa Ritual "Circle of Life." It's an intense cobalt blue.

Sorry about the formula. This is really very pretty!

You definitely need to try it! I know one of the PoP bloggers has it and it's literally cobalt blue. I'm on a polish no buy right now but once it's done, I will be having a "BUY ALL THE POLISH" moment! Baker Street is on that list.

Sorry that Royal didn't work for you, it's such an awesome cobalt! I've just worn it for two days and would probably have happily worn it for another two without wear or chipping if I didn't have to go nude for work. I use Sally Hansen Insta Dri top coat and find that it rescues all sorts of dodgy formulas and makes manicures last really well (it still works well even though my bottle has hit the half full mark and gone a bit thick and gluggy as they are prone to do).

Oh no sorry it didn't work out for you! It chips quicker than most polishes do on me, but not right away. Wrapping the tips plus seche vite helps. Hope you find your dream cobalt!

@Bunny - Excellent thank you! I love Spa Ritual!

@MariJo - The colour is seriously awesome right!? So bummed...

@screamviolence - LOL! I love the "BUY ALL THE POLISH" moment - and that you have a list for it! After all the recs for it, I would be remiss if I didn't try Baker Street - it's my blogger duty, right??

@Robyn - Hmm I've never tried SH Insta Dri believe it or not! It's probably worth a shot - I've only heard good things about that topcoat!

@Jacqui - Unfortunately wrapping the tips with SV is my standard method! I guess chemistry just wasn't on my side with this one. My nails hate China Glaze polishes as well...go figure!
