Worth it - Chanel Graphite

I had convinced myself that I would never buy a Chanel polish again. They chip horrendously on me and are terribly overpriced. However, Graphite really really called to me - ever since I saw some promo shots from the runway those many months ago. Upon it's release online, I managed to hold fast - I resisted!! I told myself I didn't need it, it wasn't *that* special, and Barry M would come up with a good dupe before long.

Then my mother went to preview the Chanel fall collection. I think she wanted some of the new eyeshadows. (Which I want as well.) She saw that Graphite was a hot commodity, and decided that she needed to get it for me. She even told me it was "the only one of them that won't make your skin look even more jaundiced that it already does". Ah, honesty.

How glad am I that she picked this up for me?

So glad.

Shockingly, I've been wearing this for *days and days* now, and am in the midst of moving and it has only chipped a tiny bit on one finger, where I smudged the polish initially. Seriously shocked at this. Also...it's effing gorgeous!! It's like OPI Brand New Skates on shimmer 'roids! I love things that have a bit of a gold tinge to them - I usually wear gold jewelry so it works for me. Honestly, I can't really explain, either in pictures or in words, how densely packed with shimmer this is, or how gorgeous and multi-faceted the colour is. I implore you to go to your nearest Chanel counter and check it out.

In the end I managed to stay true to my mantra of "don't buy any more Chanel polishes," thanks to my mother's generosity. But sometimes mother truly knows best. My verdict on this one? Even as a Chanel skeptic, I say - worth it.

Have you tried any of the Chanel Fall 2011 polishes? What about the eyeshadows? I'd love to hear what you think!

  1. I'm actually not very tempted by this one, but Peridot... that's a different story. Biggest lemming I've had in a looong time.

  2. I am wearing Graphite right now and going on the longest chip free manicure I have ever had. That is saying a lot as I have a new baby and am constantly washing my hands right now!

  3. Gahhh! *closes eyes* I didn't need to see this! Looks fab on you!!

    I convinced DH to let me get Peridot (he likes duochromes, so it wasn't a hard argument), but he wasn't too keen on me spending $50 for two polishes, so I had to pass on Graphite for now. *sobs*

    Maybe I can save up for it. :-)

  6. This is gorgeous! I've seen a few Chanel's I like, but I just can't get my head around the price tag.

  7. I'm in love with this polish! I wasn't sure about how it worked with my skintone when I first applied it, but then the longer I wore it, the more I liked it. It lasted for almost a full week with needing only minor touchups! That's definitely a record for me. I don't spend the money for a Chanel polishes unless there is something special about it, but this one was well worth the cost!!

  8. I couldn't agree more! I'm actually wearing this right now. I also got Quartz, I tried it on in the store and thought it complimented my skin tone really well.

  13. I really want to get Peridot. I haven't been able to splurge on a Chanel polish yet, but I'm thinking that one may be it. I'm just afraid that once I splurge on one, I'll justify splurging on more!

  15. I passed on the polishes (I love Graphite in pics, but I really struggle with both gold AND silver for some reason - they both look stark and my skin pulls out weird undertones) but I did buy the Prelude eyeshadow quad, which is AWESOME. And I'm strongly tempted to get the blush as well, but I'm trying to resist.

  17. @Laura - Peridot seems to be the hit of the collection for everyone else!! I can't get behind it for some reason though...

    @Martha - OMG mine is doing so well its incredible!! I am so happy with the lasting power of this too!

    @Courtney - Another Peridot lover! I'm seriously in the minority. I think Graphite is worth it - pinch your pennies!

    @Kiki's Corner - I've had troubles with Chanel polish in the past, but this one is stellar so far. Hope you have a great day too!

    @Toyomi - Thanks!

    @Sarah - It *is* a hefty price to pay. That's why I balked as well.

    @Anne - Yes! The lasting power is surprisingly good for me as well - I'm glad you love your Graphite too!

    @Original T. Mitch - I'm curious about Quartz...in some photos it looks brushstroke-y and err..not so good. In others it looks TDF!!! I think I need to see it in person.

    @Olivia Frescura - Thank you!

    @Leslie - I agree! It was more gorgeous than I imagined!

    @Natalie - You def need it!

    @Claire - Thanks!

    @gnoma - Hahaha I wish I was sorry, but I'm glad I'm pushing you towards getting it!! I think you would *love* it!

    @Roxy Heart - I think this collection is quite the hit!

    @Jill - Again, more love for Peridot!! Why is this one calling to everyone?

    @swatchaholic - Ooo do you have pics of Quartz yet??

    @Beck - Skintones are a crazy thing aren't they?? And that quad looks *amazing*! I now have some of those new creme shadows coming my way but I'm so tempted by Prelude....

    @Laura - Aww that's so cute that its your birthstone!I think if Chanel made one called "Aquamarine" I'd have to buy it!

  18. This is so beautiful. I can't wait tot get my hands on a bottle. What base and t/c did you use to get such great wear?

  19. I love it!! I put in on my wish list (with Péridot), I haven't been so tempted by a Chanel polish since Blue Satin!
    Your mum has been so sweet to buy a bottle for you!!

  20. @Alison - You are going to love it!! Are you planning on getting the whole collection?? I used OPI Base Coat (the pink one) for some reason - I don't usually use that but for some reason I felt like it. And then for topcoat I used Barielle Manicure Extender with some Essie Quick-e drying drops to speed the drying along.

    @maisenzasmalto - My mother can have her sweet moments! This was an extra good surprise :)

  21. I am definately after the whole collection, I like the swatches I've seen of all the colours but I think Graphite will be my favourite.

    Thanks for letting me know what base & t/c you used. I think I will have to try Barielle ME.

  22. This is so pretty. I own one Chanel which is Paradoxl. I just can't pay that much for one polish. Although Peridot is calling my name. Good thing your Mother bought this for you. Looks fantastic on you.
