Vamps for October: OPI tease-y does it

God, I LOVE October. I can finally wear my (extensive) collection of coats and boots! I'm pulling in teaching money! My supervisor isn't abroad! Life is good. And after ruining my nails decorating I've been taking the opportunity to file them down and pull out the vamps. I don't like wearing dark colours when my nails are long because it makes me feel like a try-hard. But I love them on shorties, and October is the perfect season to start wearing them!

So first up, OPI tease-y does it from Burlesque. I was never really sold on this colour, but everyone went so cuckoo over it that I had to see what all the fuss was about it. I can understand it but I don't fully share it. This is two easy coats, with a finished result that looks like a dark blackberry colour with fuchsia flaky glitter. But I kind of hoped that it would all be a little more...va-va voom than it is. It's pretty, very work appropriate, and subtle. What can I say, I'm bad at subtle! It chipped the next day though, so as much as I liked the respectability of it, chipped dark polish isn't so great.

  2. I'm wearing this right now for the first time as I type this. I actually really love it, it's probably one of my favorite polishes now.

  3. I totally agree with your observation about vampy colors on long nails making you feel like a "try hard." I feel exactly the same. Also, love "a try hard." Best neologism I've heard in a while!

  5. It's perfect for October. I love coats, sweaters and boots. Too bad it never gets cold enough in Florida to wear them. I hate it here.

  8. Maki, Melissa - glad you like it, it is very elegant!

Rin Roof Nails - I actually can't take credit for that one, 'try hard' is quite a common phrase in London, where I grew up. As in, 'bloody hell, she's such a try hard. She should lose the oompa loompa tan.'

Kimberly - I am not great with the cold, but Autumn fashion is my favourite. I love jackets and boots. I'd love to visit Florida, though! I guess you always want what you don't have. Right now we're having a heatwave (29C, the hottest it's ever been in the UK for this time of year) and it's glorious!

Frankenstyna - Every time I expressly file nails down they feel like shorties! But objectively, not really. I'm thinking of going shorter and keeping them quite reasonable for the next couple of months, because I've been so hard on them lately.

Fingers, Fashion Footing - thank you!

  9. Your nails look spectacular! Last year I wore all vampy shades in the Summer. This year I wore the more "appropiate" shades. Time to break out all the deep shades. I don't own this polish. I'll add it to my ever growing list.

  10. Not into coats and boots here yet - they are going to be light jackets end of this month - if out early AM light jacket - sweater - Nov can turn really warm for Turkey day or it can be the start of our blast of real cold off the Alaskan current we get here. I also was never too sure if I liked Teasy Does It from Burlesque - I did not buy a second bottle of it as back up - that much I knew. But who can tell what grows on you after a time. Usually I can tell right off - but sometimes I find something grows on me and my first opinion changes. I think Teasy Does It gets a lot of hyped up chatter due to the fact it's a base color but has a lot of different shades in it. Some photos turn it into the brown range with flecks of different shades of shimmer/glitter in it but it's as you said a darker fuchsia with a touch of purple really in the base. Not most love the old Midnight Magic which was a dark shade for a holiday collection and OPI has done others that are very deep shades in holiday sets. This one has grown on me a little - but also like you I don't see what everyone else sees in it. I am a huge fan of Let Me Entertain You - while it's not holiday at all - it takes the place of a great fall and winter fuchsia for me which I never had one that had that kind of flash to it. I think I have 4 bottles of it as I never wanted to run out. The price on most all of the Burlesque collection is starting to go up now I have noticed on the secondary market. The glitter side is going up more than the other side. I still don't get that one orangy done (non glitter side) - something about On Stage I think it was called - it's just to me not an attractive shade at all.
