Colour Therapy: Rescue Beauty Lounge Dead Calm

I'm having a stressful week in lab (as in I've already spent several hours crying...) and I seriously need to pull it together. My polish colour choice usually reflects the mood I'm in, but this time I'm trying to create a state of mind with my polish - a state of mind I'm definitely not in. I'm frenzied, agitated, and extremely jumpy when what I need to be is a calm, cool, and collected lady. Not only does the name of 'Dead Calm' imply the cold-blooded spy-taking-out-a-target sense of focus that I need this week, but the colour is also completely chic, which somehow empowers me to say 'no' more easily to people who demand things from me.

Here she is, my colour therapy for the week, Rescue Beauty Lounge Dead Calm:

Now I've extolled the virtues of RBL before, but I really can't get enough of this brand. I've already talked about the colour a bit and you can judge it for yourself. It's the perfect dark blue creme - it never looks black, feels sexy, and gets you noticed - all without being 'loud'. Honestly, I don't think I'll want another deep blue creme again.

The reason this polish is so utterly exceptional though is the formula. This was one coat - one single teeny-tiny measly coat! Yes, ladies (and gents, you guys could most certainly rock this too!) this is a low-maintenance dark polish that is highly pigmented, dries quickly, and wears like the iron that I have come to expect from RBL.

Do you guys try to use polish to change your mood? Does it work? I hope everyone is having a relaxing and calm week! ;)

That is a gorgeous blue! OMG. I love blue cremes... from your picture it almost looks electric.

I've never used polish to change my mood (because I typically wear my polish for at least a week - I'm going on two weeks with my current mani) but I do use makeup to change my perspective on life...

@kelliegonzo - thanks! and it is glossy but I did put Seche Vite on top of it ;)

@mKat - its funny...because its a creme you'd expect it to be kind of flat, but the colour has a lot of depth and you sort of fall into it when you look at it....its dark but like you said, electric! (also two weeks?! what top/base do you use?! im lucky if i last 5 days..i do work with my hands all day though)

I always use polish to change my mood. If I'm feeling down I always whack on a bright colour like pink or orange, then I smile when I look at my nails :D

That color looks amazing with your skin tone.

That name is so spot on. And yes: RBL formula is fantastic. It's totally worth the extra $.

@Rebecca - I think I need to invest in more bright colours...Dead Calm definitely helped me out!

@Jenn - thank you!!

@laquermanic - haha lemming alert!!! I'm glad you agree about the RBL formula...I'm crazy about it! I feel bad spending the $$ but when I put the polish on I remember why its worth it :)

@yardsticks - hahaha I have to avoid the RBL site...my wallet starts gagging every time I even think about browsing :) and thanks!

I want to try RBL so bad, curse my poorness!

I normally don't choose what I'm going to wear like that, but maybe I should give it a try.

I think putting on polish itself changes my mood... just to have something new and pretty to look at. I do try to match my mood to my polish.

Hope you feel better soon! We all have those days, trust me. :)

PS: And the RBL... gah, like there even needs to be words.

@Arrianne - RBL is so worth the $. Ji is having another 50% off sale (makes it even more worth the money!) on Cyber Monday in November and I'm already planning what I'm going to buy!

@Glitterati - You're right - the act of putting polish on itself helps - I mean how could pretty shiny things be bad?! And Dead Calm has already begun helping me :)

I've been eagerly awaiting their next sale to make my first purchase since I missed the last one. November...it's so long away! =(

@kittytokaren

It is chipping now. It probably wore for about 1.5 weeks before it started chipping this time around. Usually I get the cuticle gap (from nail growth) before I get tip wear or chipping. This time I got a little lazy and had to deal with school before I dealt with nails. (Nails tomorrow!) :)

My "topcoat" of choice isn't really a topcoat... (at least I'm pretty sure it isn't). It's a clear nailpolish from Sally Hansen's Hard as Nails line. No. 95 in Nude. :) My local Walmart had them for 2 bucks a bottle a while back (I'm not sure whether they're being discontinued)....so I bought a bunch. The ONLY drawback to this stuff is that it isn't a quick dry polish...so I have to be careful after I'm done. Aside from that though, it wears really well and leaves my manis nice and glossy.

For what it's worth though, I don't work with my hands as much as you do (unless you count the endless hours I spend in front of a computer or with a book) :P. I think five days for a mani, especially considering what you do, is awesome.

@mKat - I'm still mad jealous at 1.5 weeks until chipping!!! I guess what I do is a little too stressful (drenching my hands in ethanol, prying open glass or metal thingies, being around a lot of fire and noxious chemicals...but still. I guess I'm also a little picky about tip-wear as well so maybe thats why I change it!

I'm going to have to check out this hard as nails business though...maybe give it a thorough wear test? :) Thanks for responding!

I love RBL. Sadly, I own all but around 5 of their colors (thank you December sale :D). I have Dead Calm and it is such a perfect name for it. I've got on Purple Haze right now and haven't changed for a week, which for me is astonishing. I've just started getting tip wear due to my 8-10 hours a day of typing, but the wear on their formula is just beyond amazing!!

kittytokaren said...

oh my goodness Aaren I just drooled thinking about your RBL collection!!!! Purple Haze is on my "must buy" list for sure (and Smitten..and Stormy..and and and). And really that's what it is for me - maybe I could find some of these colours elsewhere (some of them are really unique though) for a lot less, but nothing is going to wear like an RBL!
