Jade is the new...Mom?

For my birthday today, I got a big surprise from my mother...not so much big in size but big in shock value! My mother is a *huge* OPI fan - she keeps abreast of every collection and has quite a good selection of her own. So of course she knew about Hong Kong. The place she usually gets her OPI even set it out earlier than they were supposed to, so she picked up two Lucky Lucky Lavender (one for me, one for her). She then noticed that Jade is the New Black was gone....and then that the saleslady was wearing it......and thus a lemming was born! She hunted it down and now:

I have it on my nails! My mother is normally waaaayyy more conservative, and expects me to adhere to those rules. She would rather die than wear green polish in public...(She even mentioned when she gave it to me that it was 'kind of a joke'.) But something about it being the "IT" colour made her need to get it for me! (I'm giggling because I can see her going in a frenzy from store to store demanding in her German accent "I vant ze green one!!!")

I'm normally not a green polish wearer either, but I have to say I feel kind of awesome wearing this. I think that the green is just blue enough for me, and it has a pinch of that dusty quality that I like to it. It looks like a polished opaque gemstone - like the green of a malachite. The formula was awesome - two easy breezy coats. I've come to expect this of OPI cremes, especially those with the ProWide brush. I hope they can keep this kind of quality up!

Will I wear this every day? No. Will I pull it out when I'm feeling kind of funky? Sure. Will it always remind me of my mother's first green polish lemming? Absolutely.

How about you guys - did you jump on the Jade is the New Black bandwagon? Do you wear green polish?

haha awesome story.

No, I haven't jumped on the bandwagon. I haven't even jumped on the OPI bandwagon. I have a new haul (which according to my tracking number is sitting downstairs) with some OPI minis in it...but nothing quite so fabulous as this green.

To be fair, I am looking for the "perfect" green...and I think my vision leans more yellow than blue. This looks awesome on you though!

My mother is also conservative about polishes, but she's completely in love with holos. I recently bought & wore China Glaze's OMG and my mother made me show my nails to everyone else in the household (which are my brothers and my dad. They weren't very interested. hahaha) And I love green polishes; I don't really wear "safe" colors very often :P

Happy birthday!

I love the story. My mom passed away many years ago, but I can still hear her German accent! I wasn't impressed with JitNB in the store, but I gotta say it looks awesome on you!

And MKat, if you haven't already, check out Ulta's new green (Limelight, I think). It definitely leans to yellow.

@everyone - thanks for loving my moms story! I'm still kind of laughing at her...she was green with envy!!!

@flinty - I know..can you believe it?! This makes my greens total 2...and I'm trying to swap ONS. I kinda like it though...*hides sheepishly*....

@JustMe - My mom says hi from a Hamburger! (She also says people from Stuttgart are nicer than the people in Hamburg...oi..)

@mKat - I've seen some fab yellow-leaning greens (like one from the barielle collex for ovarian??) I am so yellow myself that I can't wear those colours...makes me glow eerily...yikes.

@Jess - love to hear about another conservative mom branching out!! and thanks for the bday wishes :)

@augusta - it so is. love the term 'the business'. Yes. Just..yes.

@daydream222 - Thanks!!! I think I'm far away from green becoming my fav colour, but I am adjusting to this! Before you know it i'll be wearing mega glitter everywhere...(nooo dont let them take me!!!!)

@ Heidi - I'm sorry for the loss of your mom! I will never forget my mom's voice either. Gotta love german Muttis!

<3 thanks again everybody!! I love reading your comments!!

I love the color, I am glad that your mother hunted it down for you!

@Heidi: Oh to be in the US where you have fabulous things like Ulta. I have a conference coming up in a while... I wonder how much nail polish I can cross the border with. haha

@kitty & Heidi: I have to say... I haven't seen "the" green yet. I am thinking of entering the Illamasqua contest for that reason alone. :P (But your suggestions are well noted!)

This looks amazing on you! In fact, I haven't wanted this polish until now, even though green is my favourite colour and I have more green polishes than any other colour!

Your praise of the application is drawing me in... :)

kittytokaren said...

@Jenny - application seriously rules. I feel like I'm being spoiled by all the OPI cremes I've used lately! Just glorious and pigmented! (unlike YDKJ and OTT...oi)

Aww, it's so cool that your mum is into polish as well! And too cute that she went out to get you JiTNB! Happy Birthday!

@jess - I think she's the one who started it! Part of being a proper lady and whatnot...but she is hilarious!! I never thought I'd see the day when she would hunt down a green polish...
