Do my survey and enter to win 8 polishes!

4:05PM, May 9th: SURVEY ERROR HAS BEEN CORRECTED. Those who have done it once can do it again if they really want to. Those who stopped in between, please start it again from the following URL: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/M2RPQHL. The link has been corrected.

For all those wondering what to get me for my birthday, here's something to consider: do my survey and help me out with my research! ;)

(No, really, I seriously need your help. This survey is to help me finish up my second-year project, which is due in about 18 days...)

And in return, I am offering up eight pretty lil polishes! Namely, these...

Color Club Gossip Column, Color Club She's So Glam, Nubar Essence, Nubar Jewel

Quirius OK is Me, Quirius Sweet Mimosa, Barielle Shades, Barielle Night Moves

How to enter:
  1. Read these instructions first. :)
  2. Complete my 15-20 minute survey, located here.
  3. AFTER YOU ARE DONE WITH THE SURVEY, enter yourself in the ContestMachine widget below:
  4. To get more chances to win, please pass on the survey URL https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/M2RPQHL on to your friends and family (especially guys because most of you are female and I need some male data too). For every person you get to participate, you will get an extra chance to win these wonderful polishes! Email polishorperish@gmail.com or comment in this entry with your email address and the number of people you have been able to recruit for the survey. They MUST, however, finish the survey before you claim your extra chances. Please let me know ONLY after you are assured that they have finished the survey. Otherwise, it's not playing fair.
  5. To get three extra chances to win, post this on your blog or Tweet about it. You don't even have to mention to promote Polish or Perish in any way; just be sure to give people the survey's link: hhttps://www.surveymonkey.com/s/M2RPQHL. Email polishorperish@gmail.com or comment in this entry with your email address and a link so I can see you have indeed posted about the survey.
  6. GIVEAWAY CLOSES ON MAY 14th, 2010 @ 11:59PM EST.
Unlike the last survey giveaway I did, I have NO way of knowing whether you have completed the survey or not before entering the giveaway. PLEASE don't enter unless you've done the survey: it's not fair to the other people who have taken the time to help me out. There will be at least one giveaway coming up this summer (to celebrate the blog's first anniversary) so it's not your only chance to win something from this blog! So if you don't want to do the survey, that's fine... just don't enter the giveaway. :)

Please let me know ASAP if there are any problems with the survey. I checked it a couple of times but I've been staring at it for hours and hours and my eyes have blurred over.

Thank you SO MUCH for your help, everyone! There was a phenomenal response to the last survey I did and that helped me so greatly (and it has shaped some of the research which I will be pursuing this summer). I am extremely grateful to have such a wonderful and generous readership for our blog.

...now, I will continue writing my second year paper. Because that's what birthdays are about. :(

Hi there! I'm in the middle of taking the survey, and I noticed at question 4, the survey will not let me check the same answer for different questions. I was wondering if that was intentional on your part, or if it was a function of the survey itself? Thanks!

Sydni said...

Same question as Lindsey, what to do about question 4.

Anonymous said...

Same question. I couldn't give the same answer for more than one question. SO, if I checked "extremely unsure" for more than one question, it blew away the first instance.

So I stopped :(

AHHHHH!! OK, I'm working on it right now. Will have it up and running in a moment!

FYI, same thing happened to me on Q3. Thanks!

flinty said...

OK, it should be up and running fine now. I hope. :( Thanks guys!

I did your survey and fortunately it went off without a hitch! I think your project is pretty awesome! Like, really awesome! :D (ok so did that like now make me sound less professional and less polite? :P )

The section with the 11 questions about the phrases has a problem with the 10th question. The answer choices are about being more or less authoritative, but one of the answer choices says "polite" instead of authoritative.

Awesome survey. It made me really think about how I hear things that people say, and the way I can write off, or suddenly pay more attention, depending on the words used.

And yay! Awesome giveaway!

i enjoyed the survey - wish i really could've went to coachella!!!!!!!!!!!

flinty said...

@chelsea: thanks for pointing this out, I've corrected it. :)

Thanks for the giveaway opportunity! I loove the Nubar polishes! The survey was also interesting- I'm studying speech language pathology, so it's related to my area of study. Good luck on your project!

Happy Birthday Flinty!!

I'll get down to your survey once I'm done with work =)

Your projects are more interesting than the ones I've been through, haha! I'll see if I can get some guys to take the survey, but you know boys and their laziness... :D

Just finished the survey! Now I'm going to be paying WAY too much attention to vague language. :)

Hi, I have a general question. :) I'm not a native English speaker (I'm Swedish and live in Sweden). Would my taking the survey mess up your study? I'd like to help as a birthday present, but I'm wondering if it would be better if I didn't. (Btw, not looking to enter the giveaway.) Happy Birthday!

@aikiulrika: don't worry about it. Definitely take it if you want to! I have a demographic survey at the end that asks about your first language and the language you're most comfortable in. :)

Great survey! I had to really think about it!

That was a long survey, but I "like" did it :):)

Great survey - it really made me think about how I use language! I made sure my Mom and my husband both took it, too. I also just posted about it at http://fluffypuppynow.blogspot.com/p/contestsgiveaways.html

Good luck with your research - hope you get "a lot" of participants! ☺

Some comments: Not all of the required questions were starred on the later pages. A progress bar or page count (page x of y) would have been appreciated. The layout was effective and did not irk me in any way. For example, I hate when the Likert scale tops a long list of items and I can't see the headings as I move down the questions.

Among my peer group, we normally use "like" to substitute for "says" or "said" rather than as a filler word or to indicate approximation, i.e. "he was like" = "he said" and "he's like" = "he says"

Angie84 said...

That was kinda tricky! It really made me think about how I interpret things, and the words that I use, like, every day. :-)

That was tough. It's hard to answer some of those questions when it's only text and not actual sentences with inflection of voice.

Good luck on the paper and everything else school related. I love the subject you're studying... very interesting, very cool, very now. ;-)

I took the survey and I blogged about it in my sidebar, with a link directly to the survey. I'm sorry I am so late to the party, I did not read about it until today. Here is a link to my blog:
