Cult Classic - OPI You Don't Know Jacques!

Reminder: Don't forget to enter the GIVEAWAY featuring Essie Smokin' Hot and a Pradman labradorite ring!! Click here to see the original GIVEAWAY post, or just enter using the widget at the top of the blog!

This polish deserves a special mention. It single-handedly started the taupe-craze that has spawned many of my favourite polishes - I seriously love this colour family! - but this was the grand-daddy of them all. Since his release (I always think of You Don't Know Jacques! as a he...) other companies have been riffing off of this theme, hoping to capture some of it's money-making popularity for themselves. And its worked! Thanks to YDKJ, a great fad has now become a classic.

Excuse my skin in this photo...it was really cold out so my hands are kind of chapped and blotchy...sexy...

It really is much more flattering on me that it appears in this photo, as my skin is much more yellow in reality. YDKJ always reminds me of brownie batter somehow...not the homemade kind, but the from-the-box kind. And that's a good thing! And it never fails to make me feel chic. I think this is a must-have in any modern girl's collection...

Do you own this cult classic polish?

Hi k2k-Yes I do and love it's colour and shine. OPI makes great polishes and bought it off amazon.com one day. Besides, your skin looks lovely holding the bottle, so you don't need to apologize, the OPI YDKJ looks sensational on your gorgoeus nails with a flawless finish.

So very chic.

I have this one and love it! I actually bought it on a whim and wasn't sure what to expect. Pure love. In fact, it's lurve. Plain and simple. *sigh I'm at a loss for words about this one.

I absolutely love this polish. I seem to reach for this or Essie's Chinchilly more than most other colors.

I don't have it. A taupe is a taupe is a .....I have lots and I love them all.

Of course! I can't believe how many people are saying they don't have it! I think SOPI Metro Chic is a bit more flattering on me, but I do still reach for "the original" from time to time. I've actually been wearing a bunch of my old classics lately. LPAD, Siberian Nights, YDKJ... there's a reason they're classics!

@Geo58 - Love the name "McHuggs" btw!! :) And I agree - chic is the word!

@Karla - Its true, there's not much to say about this one! It's perfectly what it is. And I love it.

@yocoms1 - I'm also a big neutrals-wearer! I gave my Chinchilly away but something is telling me I should go back to it....

@Faith J - :) I'm so glad you think so too!

@nailsbybellan - I don't think that there is one polish that everyone *needs* to have in their wardrobe, but this is for sure a classic that would have a place with everyone! Try it out!

@Danny - There are indeed so many taupes! I used to have OTT but I gave him to a good friend :)

@jaljen - Yay for taupes!

@Grace - Hehe I can't either! I feel like this is such a classic! MC is probably more flattering on me, but some days I really dont feel like wearing a 'purple'-ish polish so I reach for this. Most of my neutrals pull very purple on me.

A really nice colour - I don't have this one, but do have a couple similar. For ages I wasn't sure if taupe would work for me (being a guy), but when I tried one I was very pleased with the look and now wear taupe type colours regularly. Thanks for point out the original!

right now i have jade is the new black on my nails but i'm dying to wear YDKJ again!

Jenny$1983 said...

I certainly do! I keep meaning to wear it again ... I only wore it once the first time I bought it, along with Orly Country Club Khaki painted on as a half-moon manicure. I loved the combination! I also have Posh Polish from Eyeko, I believe they're similar.

I just bought this a few months ago. I can't believe that I waited so long. It's the best taupe of them all. A really flattering polish.

I don't own this, but I wish I did!

@Andy - You know when I first looked into taupes I thought the same thing..ew...mud?? But on they are really flattering!! I think its a really great guy colour as well because its so neutral :)

@Liz - Aww yay JitNB is such a happy colour!

@Jenny - Ooo that combo sounds really neat. I think you're right - pics of Posh Polish have been really similar looking.

@Lucy - Oh yay its your favourite taupe! I agree it is pretty universally flattering.

@Zara - Do you like taupes?
