Hey, want to see the worst NOTD I've had in a long time? (CND Brigitte with Anna Effect, Jason Wu collection)

I was really into the idea of the Jason Wu/CND collaboration. So much so that I actually bought it for full retail price and then some from Cult Beauty (because I was getting the Rococo Gold Leaf polish anyway and if I was going to pay for across-the-pond shipping... etc).

I like interesting textures. I like taupey, underplayed colors. I really like CND's new polishes. (Though I just saw some old glitters from 2008 on the Pretty Random blog and holy effin' crap, I so want. Even though my experience with old CNDs was pretty bad.) So when I heard about a whole collection of sophisticated shroomy types of colors with an Effects polish that promised a "tweedy" texture, I was pretty excited. (No one else was but I was.)

And then I put this on. I mean... I've been having bad mani days (much like bad hair days but worse because I can see my nails at any time and I need a mirror to see my hair) but this took the cake.

Behold, the cake:

CND Brigitte (Colour) and Anna (Effect)
Mauvey, taupey... warm and sort of dull. But that's not the worst part. The worst part is the bubbling. This polish did not enjoy my Gelous bc and/or Diamont tc and reacted very angrily to me when I made them all play together. Also, what happened to the fantastic CND creme formula? Some of the core CND Colour polishes are simply perfection (completely opaque and smooth in two coats) with a dummy-proof brush. This, in comparison, was watery, thick, and needed three coats (which is not desirable in a polish meant to be layered underneath another).

Actually... no, I change my mind. The worst part was the "tweedy" texture, the Anna polish. In the bottle, it looks a lot like a matte topcoat (and indeed, it does mattefy). But when applied, it mostly looks like I stuck a hand with wet nails into the pocket of an old wool coat. The little linty shards coming off the nail... I mean, that just kind of put it over the top.

Closeup of Brigitte and Anna
A bubbly, hairy manicure. Couldn't wait to take this one off and I kind of didn't want to post it... except... it's a bubbly, hairy manicure and that's kind of funny in itself.

Oh man, that's really quite awful. What was CND thinking with that hairy effect??

I'm with you -- really wanted to like this collection, but it's pretty underwhelming. And I had the same experience with Anna. One of my friends looked at my nails and said "What happened to you?"

LOL I know this is nothing to laugh about, but I just can't help it. Who in their right mind invents a polish like this? It's like sheetmarks, but worse. Sorry you had to pay alot of money for it!

Wow. That is....not really attractive. What were they thinking?

Yipes, and the color isn't even that great!!!

It appears that your nails need a shave...

Who wears short shorts???

LOL. Man, thank you so much for killing my similar lemming based on the thought, "Oh yeah, I love the CND formula and brush, and I love neutrals..."

Wow yep, that's some fail right there. Sorry to hear it.
Funny enough, I found a polish at a 100 yen store here that was a men's "fiber polish". It's plain black but it has a case of the hairy's too. At least with the black though it's not so noticeable.

Oooooh what a mess... too bad, CND normally does some awesome stuff but this is just ugly.

I am very glad you posted this, as I've been curious about this set.

Poor Flinty! Ugly color and hair? Insult added to injury!

SpaceNK.com has the Rococo nail polishes as do their boutiques here in the USA. Next time you will avoid the added cost of overseas shipping.

Oh my god, that polish looks like someone waxed her upper lip with it! Thanks for showing it anyway - it's fun to see the "nail wrecks" sometimes!

I just had the set today on the nail and tried anna over the polish i had on and my first thought was : it looks like i petted my cat while the polish was not dry? Not flaterring at all.

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience, but it made for one hilarious post!

That's simply disgusting. But terribly funny. I never had a good feeling about this collection. It looked "off", from the funky nude colors, to the "tweed" Effect. This is one that should have been axed before it got very far in development.

There's an old Colorama polish that has the same teeny little hair glitter in it, but it's an iridescent pale pink. It looks really pretty on darker colors, but I think it's the texture of the shimmer that makes it work. Matte fiber "glitter"... not so much. I think I'd rather put a quick dry top coat over my polish and then gently press actual tweed fabric into the top to get some texture.

Wow, that's heinous. (sp?)

I have but three words: Ew times INFINITY.

Anna seriously has Zena in a bottle! I never thought that could happen, but that's quite disgusting. Who wants my dog's hair in a bottle?

You need a Nair topcoat!

@emmajoy: It's possible they might've accidentally dropped a basketful of lint into a vat of polish and thought, "well, might as well make something of this…"

@jamie: Hahaha. Seriously, my SO said the same thing.

@PolishSis: I give them props for trying to think outside the box but uh… this went a little too far outside.

@jaybird: this seems to be the general consensus. :)

@Charlotte: LOL. I was actually pretty disappointed in the color too.

@cilucia: glad I could help!!

@meeka: …"men's fiber polish". Black and hairy? I'm going to need to ponder that more…

@deborah: I know! I was so disappointed.

@karend: always happy to help. :)

@barrie: SpaceNK hadn't been carrying the gold leaf polish when I ordered. :(

@courtney: Hey, I truly believe about not shielding people from the ugliness of life. ;)

@marlene: I'm still waiting for a good swatch of it somewhere…

@irishenchantment: Oh, it did. ANY mani after that would've cheered me up.

@musings: haha, thanks. I aim to entertain.

@apriltini: I still think they could've have pulled it off better than they did. I don't mind the overall concept of it…

@auroragyps: I have that one! I forget what it's called though. It's a very nice effect when it's iridescent (it's like bar glitter, but tiny) but… this is a pretty big fail. I agree that I'd much rather "create" a nail pattern using actual fabric than leaving it up to… wool in my polish.

@katie: Hey, maybe you could make some money on it.

@ggggg: hahahahahahahhahhhhh!! That totally cracked me up.

How did you feel about the rest of the Jason Wu collection? Clearly this one was a miss, but were the others better? I've been curious about this collection since I saw its promos.
