I usually reserve brights for my toes - I'm a bit scared to wear them on my tips! What with the unofficial start of summer (Memorial Day weekend), I was suddenly in the mood to have some colour to pop against my almost-always-neutral outfits!
So I chose Essie Geranium, a super award-winning polish that I picked up at Ulta for a buck a long time ago when I was visiting my mother. (Her Ulta always has the most random/wonderful things on sale.) This is a polish I lovelovelove on my toes, but it's never ventured onto my tips.
Until now...
I received *so many* compliments on this mani it was ridiculous! I guess because it was more noticeable? I wore this with neutral outfits - blacks, greys, whites, khakis - and delicate turquoise jewelry and I think it worked really well. I usually steer clear of such loud hues on my tips, but something about the season has me feeling adventurous. The fact that I think this colour really works with my skin tone and lil' nubbins doesn't hurt either! I think the name of this polish is absolutely perfect - Geranium - yes, named after a flower, but it also sounds like it could be a radioactive element!
Colour me converted - I now imagine that I'll be sporting this and other orange-y colours (a la Essie Meet Me At Sunset - *swoon*) on my tips this summer! And maybe a bright pink or two? We shall see...
Do you wear brights in summer? What are your faves?

I love Geranium! It looks more orange on me though. I especially love the fact that I found it at Ulta for 99 cents.
I love it! Essie enough is enough (enuff is enuff?) is my favorite bright coral, and I do love it on both tips and toes. Bright corals are just so perfect for summer.
Its nails beautiful!
kisses
For some odd reason I've been buying a lot of mauves and taupes this summer. But today, it's Zoya Sooki and super bright!
This looks stunning on you, you definitely should wear more brights :D!
I always go back to my all-time favorite polish...OPI Cajun Shrimp. I wear it all summer on my tips and toes!
I love it! I can see why you got complimented.
That's a great color, and it looks fabulous on you!
I am so proud of you for branching out! Now just don't freak out and try to downsize your stash again!
p.s. it's my favorite Red Essie!
I'm so glad you've worn a bright color on your fingernails. I think it's the easiest way to be brave with color. This is really pretty.
I have the same color on my left hand! My right hand is Essie's exposure.
@Laura - It changes in terms of orange-ness depending on the light for me. I love it!
@Grace - enuff is enuff is so pretty! I wanted to get it, but I feel like I have so many colours from this family already. And you're right, bright corals are perfect. I'm pretty hooked right now!
@tata-nadaver - Thank you!
@Adrianna - Hey, taupes are always perfect. :)
@Deborah - Thank you! And I am :) You'll see more in upcoming posts!
@Rachel - ilexica just sent me Cajun Shrimp and its gorgeous! I can't wait to test it out - look out for it in a future post from me! A lot of people seem to love it. I know its one of Piff's favourites!
@JC - Aww thanks :)
@jbrobeck - Yes! Thank you for being proud of me! It is scary, but baby steps? And you *know* I'm a chronic purger...
@Lucy - Yes, I would never wear this in clothes, but I'm loving it on my nails! Every year I get a little braver...
@Ari - Hehe do you do different polishes on different hands often? Or are you swatching?
Oh! Gorgeous red on you!
I don't normally do brights, but really felt like one today so I painted on Essie Beach Bum Blue and I am really loving that little hit ocolour! It makes me smile and I too got lots of compliments on it.
I've been wanting to try Geranium but don't normally suit orangey/coral colours so have given it a miss so far. I may have to give it a go now!
LOVE this on you. I must look out for it!
Weirdly I'm the other way around - I like brights on my fingers and neutrals / boring colours on my toes. I've got Essie minimalistic as a pedi at the moment (after seeing your post on it) and I love it.
In the same wheelhouse, I love Essie Clambake. Perfect, glossy, jellyish orange/red. It's on my fingers now and I'm smitten. It makes me want to wear a muumuu and sit on the lanai.
@Zara - Sorry buddy! Missed you the first time around - thanks for the comment!
@Sminkan - Thank you@
@Alison - BBB looked gorgeous on you!! I really didn't think it would look that pretty! I think because I have yellow skin the orange/coral thing can work on me (not always though - oi.)
@ilexica - I've always been more daring on toes, but lately I've seen a bunch of girls aroudn with rather sedate pedis and it looked *so good* that I want to try it! (Glad you like Minimalistic ;) )
@Jane Dough - Yes! I'm not sure how different Clambake is to this, but it can't be by much! And add a cocktail to that picture and I'm there...
k2k
I have this one and have been meaning to try it- it looks great on you. I bought it for my mom because I thought it might be a dupe for her discontinued favorites- Loreal Geraninum and Loreal Mango Mango. She said it was too red, so she let me keep it. I think I'll try it out as a pedi.
I love this shade - wear it often and yr round too at that which cannot say but for maybe a hand full of polish shades. It's got enough orange and a touch of pink in the red to make it really pop and work great with both warm and cool skin tones. Looks great on you. Love it as a toe color too.
