Serena Glam Slam! - Wimbledon

I grew up in a "tennis family". I've watched tennis on TV since I was in utero, and one of my earlier memories is of jumping up and down on my bed yelling "Go, Agassi, GO!!". ( This was way back when he had long hair and was the new kid on the tennis block...I feel ancient.) I've also spent years of my life watching my little brother - who is *phenomenal* - compete in a million tournaments. My family has trekked to tennis events all over the world, and I have to say, my absolute number one favourite is Wimbledon! So naturally, I was excited about the polishes coming out for the most storied of the slams!

I only got the polishes from one of the duos - the silver one. The purple just simply didn't appeal to me. Here they are...

OPI Your Royal Shine-ness

A really beautiful silver foil. Completely over-shadowed by Chanel Graphite, which was released at a similar time, but it really deserves some real kudos. It's like Grahite's younger, lighter sister - yes, a silver foil, but just a bit more complex than that. It has a touch...juuuuuussssttt a touch...of gold pigment thrown in. This serves to warm the polish up a bit, which I appreciate. Other silver foils, like OPI DS Radiance, were too cool for my skin tone. I find this one very wearable for me.

OPI Servin' Up Sparkle

Usually not something that is up my alley, but it's a cute layering polish. I chose not to show these two polishes to you layered, because I don't like the way they look together, and I think you get a better idea of what is in this polish from a bare-nailed pic.

As lovely as these polishes are, they really don't say Wimbledon to me. Wimbledon is all about classic - classic all-whites, classic traditions, classic strawberries & cream. In that sense, I'm a little disappointed. BUT, that being said, they are completely Serena. Which is what it's really all about isn't it?

Are you a tennis fan? What's your fav Slam?

That's a lovely silver on you, friend! (Rach from MUA here)

But how in the world did you not end up getting the purple? I seem to remember you wanted it for a while!

I liked this duo better than the purple too! The warm silver looks fab on you! I'm plowing through some cremes, but I can't wait to put it on now.

Love this set! Servin' Up Sparkle looks very interesting! I can't decide between this set and the purple one though.

I played tennis in high school, and Wimbledon is my favorite tournament.

Your swatches are great, but I am not so excited by this collection. I don't like how Servin' up Sparkle looks when it's layered. The glitter is too big to be so sparse. I dunno, it looks somewhat cheap to me. I'm not a fan of metallic foil-y colors either, but if it had more gold I would try it. Since it doesn't I passed on this set.

I am a tennis fan - took lessons as a kid (wooden racket days) at the local rec center and have was instantly hooked. I now cannot play myself due to developing a chronic bone disease that took surfing and a lot of sports out of my life as an active participant. However I am a big arm chair wild fan! I really like the entire Wimbledon collection & it did not grab me at first. Once I got my first which was Servin Up Sparkle - I thought did I really need another OPI sheer sparkle. Putting it on was a oh YES! This is great! The last one to come live with me was Shine-ness as I thought I had plenty of silver foils in my collection. This one is really pretty and different from others. Agree it was over shadowed on the blog sites by Chanel Graphite release at the time. I just ordered a 2nd "Grape" from this collection as I wanted to keep my box set with my grape for keepers in my collection stash and not toss the box for the duo. I never know what is going to be a collectors item down the road and ones that I really like, I tend to get back ups to and hope I can later on sell my box set. Will be interesting to see what Serena has for us for the US Open. Oh and by the way to show my age over most of you, when I first saw Agassi, it was when a golf tourney was over and by boyfriend and I were channel surfing, settled on tennis - saw Agassi for the first time and were stumbling over his name while astounded at his playing - who is this guy A - GASS - Y as we were first pronouncing his name that day. Did not take long before he was a household word!

@Rach - Hey lovely! Nice to see you here! Hmm..I was never interested in the purple - I probably wasn't clear about that though. I've been wanting this silver for a while though!

@Indoor Kitty - Mmm I love cremes...so much.

@Katie - If you're a purple polish lover, the purple set looks great! Purple is probably my fav colour (after grey), but I don't seem to wear it on my nails much.

@Cat - You played in high school? So you're probably pretty good....yikes. I'm terrible!

Honestly I'm not sure what I'm going to do with Servin' Up Sparkle. I don't like it layered either - it makes the polish under it look like it has holes in it. It might get swapped. The foil looks more gold on me than in the bottle if that helps!

@beachgal - Yay!! Another tennis fan!! I love that even though you can't participate any more directly, you're still into it!! That is a true lover of the sport right there. :) I'm interested to see the US Open polishes as well. As the most "fun" of the slams, I bet its something wild and loud! And don't feel old (in reference to Agassi!)! *hugs* You are so right - even though I was young, even I realized that he very quickly became famous. Amazing talent. I would have never guessed that he would marry Steffi Graff back then though! lol!

@Lucy - Hehe time to hunt!

@Jenna - I think I'm giving mine up...
