Nails Inc Baker Street

Nails Inc Baker street. I'll admit, I have been totally coveting this polish after seeing on Beyoncé - she was on the front page of our local free newspaper when I was on my way into work, and I had to literally control myself from hollering out loud when I spied the colour she was wearing. I'm a blue fanatic (can you tell??) and this looked like it might just be approaching the imaginary fantasy blue polish that exists only in my head (and possibly in RBL IKB 2012, but I'm not coughing up $40 to find out). So after a bit of googling, I found out what it was and tracked it down on ebay - and I'm not disappointed.

It's a perfect bright yet rich cobalt, leaning slightly violet as cobalt does, without being in any way a blurple. (It has much more of a violet undertone however than, say, Barry M Cobalt.) This was also a dream to apply - two coat creamy application and it spread like butter. I was a little worried that it might be similar to H&M blue my mind, but I compared them earlier, and this is considerably deeper and more obviously blue. It's really beautiful. If you're half way thinking about it, buy it.

This is actually an all Nails Inc mani because I have their Kensington Caviar top and base coat on, too.  The top coat I'm not crazy about because of the dry time (Seche Vite has ruined me for life) but I've been using the base coat for years and it's by far the best I've tried.

In the name of SCIENCE (sort of), I went to the art and craft store today to see if the colour really *is* Cobalt. I am happy to report that it matched this acrylic paint perfectly. Well done Nails Inc!

It's gorgeous and looks so good on you! I'm amazed because it might be the first time a nailpolish name matched the colour on the bottle perfectly ;)

What an eye-catching color!

I have Revlon Royal which is a jelly and therefore a TOP polish so I may not need Baker St.
Great colour though!

Wow! This is the closest to Yves Klein blue than any other polish I've seen. Love it!

I have wanted this colour since I saw it on Beyonce too! I LOVE IT! Do you have OPI's Dating a Royal? If so, can you do a VS. swatch? I'd liek to see how close they are, or not!

That is SUCH a gorgeous color!

What makes it even better is that it's named after the same street that Holmes and Watson live on! (Total Sherlock Holmes GEEK)

Totally makes me want this color, but I can't wear it! What's the point of buying a color if I can't wear it (even if it's totally Holmesian?)

*is peeved at Nails, Inc.*

Kaz - isn't it amazing? I think this is one polish I'd definitely consider shelling out for the crystal cap version.

Criminal nails - I know, I was shocked too ;)

Nina - I couldn't stop staring at my hands.

Jaljen - I really like the look of Revlon Royal. Not sure if you can get it here but I will look.

Fashion footing - Yeah, in honour of her daughter apparently.

Sia - I know!!

terri - do it, for sure.

sandipalien - definitely snag it, it's gorgeous. Sorry for enabling.

Blu11 - I couldn't comment on the similarity but it is really lovely.

NY nail diva - thank you!!

BMR - I agree

mgiandzi - I don't have it to compare, but I did go to a shop that was selling it whilst wearing the polish. The OPI is darker and slightly more navy.

Katie - how come you can't wear it? :(

polishloving - me too ;)

ilexica- I can't wear Nails Inc. because the formula still isn't three free. I'm actually highly allergic to toluene, and Nails Inc. is formulated with toluene in the mixture.

Basically, I decided one day to try Seche Vite, and my fingernails and fingers started feeling like I had acid burns all over them and they were burning off. So, I knew that WAS NOT a good sign and I took off my entire manicure in, like, ten seconds, then ran to my bathroom to rinse off whatever was left with soap and water. Because my hands were so red and still hurt afterwards, I took anti-histamines, ibuprofen and I put ice on them. I learned my lesson. No toluene. EVER. The Seche Vite took a one-way trip outside my house! Then the rest of my nail polish got scrutinized in the ingredients department. If it had toluene OR formaldehyde (which I'm also allergic to), it got chucked (except for my Illamasqua's. I can use those.)

Katie - oh no! That sounds awful. So sorry to hear about your experience, I didn't realise toulene allergy was a risk. Glad you can still use your Illamasquas, though!

I got this color after reading about it somewhere and it is AMAZING. So bright and cheerful. I used it in an asymmetric mani (binary 29 for a friend's bday -- I'm not a nerd!) with OPI's "Red Lights...Where?" and they are perfect together!

ilexica - If I couldn't use Illamasqua, I think I might have to drown myself (metaphorically, of course.) I just can't not have Illamasqua. They have the most consistent formula of any brand I've tried. I'd have to cry a Nile river if I couldn't use them.

Yea, you can be allergic to toluene. I didn't know that either until I had it. Formaldehyde allergies is quite common; toluene, not so much!

I got IKB 2012 and it's too purple. It didn't look it in Scrangie's photos, but it is. :( Now I need Baker St!

Ahh I've been thinking about getting this ever since I saw it on Beyoncé too! Now, thanks to you, I have to stop by Sephora on my way home :D

Gorgeous cobalt blue! And I have to tell you- seeing your posts almost always creates an incredible lemming for me! I just placed an order for Models Own Indian Ocean after seeing your last post (totally agree about Rescue Beauty Lounge being waaaay too expensive to justify), and ordered Dream Stream as well! Next thing I know I'll be wandering home with Baker Street.

Love your posts (and your fabulous nails!)- thanks for sharing, ilexica!

Such a stunning blue!!! Although their top coat is kind of what turned me off of them. I find its wear time horrific and it ALWAYS bubbles like crazy :/

Grace Thomas said...

Laika - really? I assumed this would be more purple than IKB. That's a shame. This is really nice, though!

Kat - ha, glad I'm not the only one!! Did you get it?

Lacquer tracker - that's such a nice thing to say! I'm squeeing, made my day! Really glad to be of enabling service - what do you think of the MOs? :)

Kas - I agree I don't get on with the top coat at all. Surprisingly given how much I love the base coat.

I just received the Model's Own lacquers in the mail yesterday, and can't wait to try them... they look gorgeous! The first thing I'll be doing is layering Indian Ocean overtop of For Audrey. :D
