THEME WEEK - My Favourite Glitter

I don't own many glitters. Too much bling on my fingers makes me feel awkwardly overdressed and teenagery, I feel self-consciously like I have strobe lights on my fingertips - as much as I love how glitter looks in swatches, I can't wait to get it off!

That's why China Glaze Some Like It Haute is such a great glitter for me - it's sparkly, with round holo glitters, but the charcoal microglitter tones it down. The holo glitters are also always obediently weather appropriate, looking muted on cloudy days and blindingly bright in the sun.

This is two coats over one coat of ulta3 Metal, a gorgeous charcoal shimmer that looks like lead pencil, one of my top ten ulta3s. I can't stand how Some Like It Haute is translucent when backlit (e.g. when using my phone), and for some unknown reason it looked weirdly gritty in my photos of it on its own, so Metal is the perfect opaque underwear!

Can anyone recommend some other slightly-toned-down glitters?

I love that CG polish! I find myself staring at the bottle all the time-- it's so sparkly and gorgeous!

Fell the same as you do about glitters. I use them in jelly sandwiches and that tones the bling way down - recommend trying that. Look for super light glitters like Deborah Lippmann's Glitter In the Air types - where there is sparse glitter. I don't like heavy glitters. Revlon's Whimsical is the dupe for the DL one. Also recommend OPI's Sparke De Triomphe from the Serena Williams French Open Grande Slam collection. Both white and black Nubar Polka Dot are GREAT. easy on the eye - matte round glitters with micro 'think salt for white - pepper for black' glitter in clear base - despite when you get the black Polka Dot you look at the bottle and are sure it will be in at least a gray base - nope - it's clear!

This was a huge pain the first time I wore it, but I layered it over China Glaze Jitterbug later, and that was a lot more workable.

Very pretty!

I wore mine over China Glaze Concrete Catwalk and loved it! OPI Teenage Dream isn't too sparkly when layered over a pink (I used OPI Mod About You as my base).

the new OPI Pirouette my Whistle is a good one, it is matte white hex glitters and silver microglitter in a clear base. Looks very delicate over dove grey or dusty colors.

Thanks for the love and suggestions everyone!

@beachgal - I LOVE glitter sandwiches! :) Definitely my favourite way to wear glitter.

@ poplargreys - I am lemming Pirouette My Whistle SO BAD. Right up my alley!

Maybe some of the Lippmann glitters and their dupes, like Bad Romance?

(I clicked on this to suggest the above, and had to double check that I hadn't clicked on Lab Muffin's blog instead. I thought I was going insane for a minute there, haha. Not stalking, honest :/.)

I love this polish but I hate how gritty it is!

Oooh, this is one of my favorites, too! I love dark colors, and glitter, so it's perfect!
