First is Gloss 'n Sparkle Purpetual Darkness paired with OPI DS Original (two coats layered over Models Prefer Beam Me Up). DS Original is the most linear holo I own, but it's really sheer. I really liked this mani - it was interesting enough to last me a couple of days, but not too exciting that they'd become a conversation starter. For some reason I hate when talk centres around my nails, it makes me feel really awkward! Do other nail addicts have this problem?

:-) I know what you mean Labmuffin, I get self-conscious when people move the conversation to my polish or nails in general as well, even though I get great compliments. For me, I was always told never to brag about myself, so I think that's where the subconsciousness kicks into overdrive.
@Kathy - I think for me the awkwardness lies in how I've always been told to use my brain and not my looks - I feel kind of like the attention on my nails reduces me to a bimbo (although that's obviously not true - the smartest people are efficient and multitalented enough to look after all aspects of themselves!).
I understand the way you feel. I do not like people thinking that doing my nails is a loss of time. IMHO, on the contrary, doing my nails gives me energy! But many people do not understand that.
I like getting a compliment, but it bothers me when people go "I wish I had the time to do that." Like it's a huge time commitment. I'm pretty sure most of them spend 15 or 20 minutes a day browsing Facebook or whatever, I just spend that time painting my nails.

I definitely get self-conscious, especially when it's nail art and people want to know how I did it. It's like, "Um, can we please go to a different topic?" I'm really bad at verbalizing how I did something, so I always think I sound like an idiot when I try. I just want to say, "Could you please go to my Tumblr and read how I did it?" HA HA HA.
