A Russian Substitute, Part 1 - OPI Tease-y Does It!

*sigh* Could. Not. Photograph. This.

It's gorgeous and I couldn't capture it in one (or even two) photograph(s). So how about a ton of crappy ones!? Yaaaayyy!!

With flash:

No flash/shade:

See the depth of the sparkle? Awesome. (This is probably the best/most accurate picture. Sad, I know.)

In bright light:

In the shade:

Sparkly!

See how it flashes gold sometimes?

It's hard to describe this polish. Suffice to say that it is quite special. The base is deep and smoky and rich, but not black - not purple, not anything. The not-quite-glitter-not-quite-shimmer sparkle is pink, then every once in a while it's gold.

I saw on a post on ALU here, that this was fairly close to Chanel's Feu de Russie. This really tickled me because I had always wanted to own the Paris-Moscou Collection! (In fact, I think I like this even better than Feu de Russie!)

This just shows me that good (and sometimes better) things come to those who wait! Stay tuned for another Russian Substitute...

This looks like how I was hoping OPI's DS Mystery was going to look - I had both polishes in hand but went with the DS - boy am I having buyers remorse now.

I think I'll still end up picking this one up...

This is the only one of the "shimmers" I picked up from burlesque, but I'm so glad I did. I've already worn it twice. I agree, it's an absolute knockout.

So pretty! I've been wearing similar ones now that it's so dark outside most of the time :)

Love this polish but it really is a pain to photograph! I think you did well :)

@OnceBitten: I'm in love with DS Mystery, it's on my top 3 if not my favourite polish ever! They have nothing in common, the lights in that shop must've been off ;)

@OnceBitten - Aww! I love DS Mystery but it is really different so I can see why you'd be disappointed!

@Grace - Same! This is the only Burlesque shimmer I picked up! :) Bet it looks fab on you.

@Thifa - I totally feel you...I'm in such a dark mood lately myself!

@jaljen - I am so curious - why are you renouncing OPI forever?? I'm kind of renouncing them myself, but probably for a different reason. Would LOVE to hear your opinion!

@Sia - Thank you!!! And I hope you enjoy it!

@Solens- Thank you new friend!

@Melisende - I'm glad you think I might have captured it! :)

@Danny - I am so checking out your blog right now :)

@Marina - Thanks :) (and I love DS Mystery too!)

@Aurora - Me too! Do you have it?

@Lucy - Thanks friend!!

@Adjua - Hope you like it! :)

@WhatGutSay - Nice! Do you have a blog where I can see pics?

@Jeannine - Something about that murky bottle really pulled me in too...

I agree it is quite hard to capture. I had cloudy weather when I was trying to photograph mine so that didn't help. It is awesome though, and I'm so happy I picked it up.

I think your pics look great! This polish looks like mud on me... for some reason I only love it on everyone but myself:(

kittytokaren said...

@Katie - Even in sun, this was difficult. I'm glad you like it too!

@tasha - Thank you!! I have polishes like that - OPI Tickle My France-y looks fabulous on everyone and looks *terrible* on me.

Absolutely gorgeous - after reading your review earlier today I checked out this colour in person when I was out shopping and you're right - the photos don't do it justice! Lovely.

A great looking polish, and one I look forward to trying - fortunately for me I have it in my untried pile! Normally when I see swatches of a polish and think that's one for me it's one I don't have and will find hard to get here in the UK, or which will be hideously expensive. So many thanks for making me excited about one I already have!

omg have to, have to, have to have this polish!!!

@Amy - I'm so glad and flattered that I was able to inspire you!!!! :) It makes me happy that you love it!

@Andy - Shopping in your own stash is the best! :) Let me know what you think when you do try it.

I have now tried this (I have it on now). It is a bit darker than I had hoped (it isn't a bright day here though, which doesn't help), but the microglitter sparkle is very nice, but pretty subtle. The overall effect reminds me of CG Lubu Heels, even though the colouration differs. Glad I have got it, but I might try upping the glitter a little in a day or two to give it new life.

OK, so just had a bit of sunlight, and it looks WAY better in the sunlight! The sparkles suddenly appear - very nice. Dull indoors though.
