piCture pOlish Blog Fest 2012!

It's time for piCture pOlish Blog Fest 2012, wahoo! (Some of you might have already seen these swatches before, sorry.)

What this is (as you may have gathered, from the increasing flood of piCture pOlish swatches on the blogosphere) is an event organised by Aussie brand piCture pOlish where a whole bunch of bloggers (80+!) inundate your feeds with the exciting new shades that have just been launched.

I have two pretties for you today. I was originally going to post just a couple of pictures of each, but the ladies at piCture pOlish sent me such multifaceted shades that it wouldn't do them justice. So apologies for the picspam!

First up is Mirage, an iridescent milky blue/purple duochrome shimmer over grey - you all know I'm a duo/multichrome addict! Mirage comes from the new "Collaboration Collection", which features polishes created in conjunction with various bloggers. Sara Hassan is the lady responsible for this beauty! It was inspired by a bird with beautiful plumage.

This is 2 coats swatched over a black creme. In the shade it's a very pretty soft duochrome, with light blue with a teal tinge in the middle and pale purple lurking at the edges:

At an angle, it goes a soft lavender purple, before turning into a plum purple at an extreme angle. I don't have pictures of the plum flash, because at that angle my nail was barely a sliver, but here's the lavender:

In more direct light the duochrome sparkles are more obvious and turn an unexpectedly electric teal:

I love polishes with multiple personalities! Like other duochromes, I think this would look amazing with black stamped over the top, but I thought I'd do something different with this and try a Spectraflair topcoat. Voila, dancing rainbows! You can really see the grey now:

I love the rainbows over the dusty lavender of this polish! It adds a touch of refinement to the usually out-there blaring rainbows of linear holos.

I also have Orbit, one of the 'Mesh' lineup of microglitters. It's a stunningly sparkly silver microglitter in a deep blue jelly base. This is 2 coats with Seche Vite on top. In the sun:

And in the shade:

From looking at the bottle, I thought this would be perhaps a bit too glitzy for my liking, but luckily it's just that the microglitter has a tendency to stick to the sides of the bottle despite my crazed shaking. Orbit dried a tad uneven but only needed one thick coat of Seche Vite. Like other jelly-glitters, this is slightly thicker than normal and it's a bit tricky to apply thin, even layers, but despite that I managed to get over 3 days without chipping, and they were 3 days of exercise and hair washing.

The jelly adds a lot of depth to the glitter, with different shades of blue showing depending on how far the glitter's sunk. It's an attention-grabbing polish - I've worn it twice, and both times people have asked about it! One girl described it as "crushed sapphires", which is an apt description.

Here's a macro of it on the nail:

The ladies at piCture pOlish recommended that I use a black or dark blue basecoat under Mirage, and Orbit is a dark blue... are you thinking what I'm thinking??

Mirage stamps beautifully to give a duochrome pattern on the nail! Love. This is a Mash-45 pattern.

piCture pOlish can be purchased through their website for Aussie, or from their international network. Mirage retails at AUD$11.50, and Orbit retails at AUD$9.50. The bottles feature handy QR codes which take you straight to the website where you bought them from.
