Goldie swatches, Part II of II

This post includes the worst Goldie polish in the set... and the absolute best. I think I've found my new favorite dark blue shimmer! (I guess I didn't have an old favorite dark blue shimmer but this one just mesmerized me. I would've paid the whole $7.99 just for this one polish.)

Goldie #4

Don't look at this one. I made a mess of this one. Plain hot pink jelly/creme. A bit too sheer and a tad too watery (very hard to control). Three coats.

Goldie #5

Deep auburn with gold shimmer. Has a slight dusty purplish cast to it in low lights but in stronger, more direct light, the gold shimmer just pops! Actually, a very pretty rendition of what I think of as an ordinary color.

And saving the best for last...

Goldie #6

Deep blue with bright blue (and very little purple) microglitter. Applied super easily, took three coats. This is a polish you HAVE to see in person to really appreciate. It TWINKLES. Even when you hold your hand still, the microglitter just twinkles merrily away. Maybe I had already applied too many polishes and had been around too many fumes by the time I got to this one but I just thought it magical. :)

Goldie swatches, Part I of II

These are pretty awesome for polishes that effectively came out to $1 each. Unfortunately for readers, these are unnamed. Not even numbered!

Goldie #1

Champagne shimmer with slight pinkish-purple cast. Three coats. A pretty ordinary color but pleasant nonetheless. Very smooth application, even though the weird flower top takes some getting used to.

Goldie #2

Frosty dusty purple shimmer. Pretty much same comments as the champagne shimmer polish though I like this color better.

Goldie #3

It's hard on my nails to tell but this one is awesome, even though it doesn't get opaque by three coats (and can't easily take more than that without some drying time). This would be beautiful on someone with nails that are not stained like mine. I even tried to scrub my nails with a lemon juice and hydrogen peroxide solution (next stop: denture cleaners...) before applying this one, just because it'd be beautiful if my nails were beautiful! Very fine blue, green, gold and silver glitter in bright blue jelly. Take my word for it, sparkles like mad.

Urban Decay and Goldie red creme and red foil swatches

The Saturday before last was my first Saturday in over a month where I didn't really have any pressing concerns (work, travel, etc)... and it was sunny enough to get some good swatch photos! So I hunkered down with twenty-something nail polishes, set them up in a good swatch order and started in. I spent most of my time swatching the Urban Decay Apocalyptic mini set and the silver-blue paisley Goldie set that I got at Marshall's in Back Bay.

It quickly became obvious to me that I probably wasted my money on the Urban Decay set but that the Goldie set was probably the best $8 I've spent all year. (This post doesn't show that but the ones coming up this week hopefully do.)

I usually leave reds til the end of my swatching cycle: they always seem to be the hardest to wipe off and leave my fingers looking like lobster claws. So after about two hours of swatching, I looked up and saw that I had these polishes left in the two collections:

Two red foils and two red cremes that looked similar enough next to each other. Since I don't really love reds (or red foils), I really didn't want to do four hands worth of colors I wasn't looking forward to. My shortcut: do comparison swatches! (for comparisons that no one will ever ask for).

Well. Turns out, these were four pretty different polishes. Oops.

Urban Decay Big Bang and Goldie red foil

The Urban Decay is the pinker one; the Goldie is the redder one. I actually really liked UD Big Bang. Easy to apply, was practically dry by the time I was done (two coats) and was very very shiny. The Goldie was a bit watery and hard to control and required three coats.

Urban Decay F Bomb and Goldie red creme

Three coats for both polishes. Both were actually very easy to manage polishes and both were nice examples of basic red cremes. The Goldie (lighter red) was glossier while the UD (darker red) dried a bit more matte.

This coming week, my posts will probably be split between these Goldie and UD sets. Still got five more UDs and six more Goldies to show off.
