My lame nail art.

For some reason, I had the urge to engage in some nail art recently. Little nail art. Nail art is usually way, way, way out of my comfort zone, but I felt a burst of creativity! My mani at the time was Essie Geranium (which is actually much more orange-toned that this pic would suggest). I added three little dots of Essie Turquoise & Caicos on each thumb using a bobby pin.

Essie Geranium + Turquoise & Caicos

I thought the result was fairly cute and went well with my turquoise jewelry!

And yes, I took this picture in my car...I wasn't going to share it at first but then I felt like snapping a pic at the wheel. However, I was parked in a parking lot! Don't ogle your nails and drive ladies!

Please don't judge too harshly - nail art is not my thing! Have you tried any nail art lately?

Your nail art looks cute, simple and fun. I have tried nail art and fail miserably. I don't know if a scotch tape french manicures with two colors count as nail art, but that's what I've been doing.

XOXO

I fail miserably at all nail art. This looks cute though!

I actually love this look and colour combo!!!! Sometimes simple is far more effective than intricate. ;) love it!

It's cute!! Love the colors together and I love turquoise jewelry! :)

That looks hot. I'm inspired to use my Essie Geranium now :D

This is so cute and pretty! The dots are standing out great against the color!

Lol your nail art isn't lame . It sort of stands out on the nail .

I love nail art! I try to do it on most manicures. This isn't lame, it's cute! There's something about the simplicity of it.

I've not done any nail art since I was 13, but just this week I dared to wear a polka dot pattern (lilac+dark purple). I think I'm going to go for a red+white combo with reverse colours on the accent nail (:

Simple, yet still makes it look as though you put some thought into your nails, not just shellaced it on. And I have many, many pics of my nails in my car. The lighting is perfect! I must admit too, that I have almost wrecked or sideswipped someone because I was admiring my duo/multichromes or holos in the light....it's my little joy of the day!

I think this shows really well that nail art doesn't need to be complicated to be very pretty and effective!

So cute!!

DUDE. Why have I never thought of using a bobby pin for dots?! I can't get the toothpick thing to work for me, and I just can't make myself buy a dotting tool. Thank you!! :-)

I think your mani is very nice. I love turquoise and red together and have actually done a couple of mini nail art experiments with those 2 colors. You can check the pictures on my blog if you like.

Wow, your polish is so glossy! Gorgeous. I think that's a great color combination. :)

I adore it! And I even could do this one!!! Geranium is one of my fav red/oranges of all time. Great to put T & C on the little dots - and you did not even need any fancy dotting tool! A bobbie pin - never would have thought of that one. And no, I have not done any nail art other then lines with Stripe Rite across the very tip of my toe nails in a glitter - usually silver. I am so not talented and have not invested in a Konad stamping system. I am going to be a copy cat and try this one just like you have it done! I think it's perfect for me who is not into major nail art anyway - a lot of it is too much for my classic style - I will like it for 2 hrs and then think goofy looking when I have had it done. I have a few decals and use them like you did here - only on one accent nail.

@Veronica - I'm so glad you do! I was nervous to share...

@Laura - Thank you! They look even better together IRL.

@Brainless Housewife - Thank you! Scotch tape french manicures totally count as nail art - a nail art I have yet to master. Sadly, my freehand french looks better..which isn't saying much.

@Jen - Thanks! This was super easy!

@Marta - You're right sometimes there is great beauty in simplicity :)

@Susy - I love turquoise jewelry too! I have to restrain myself from just wearing white t-shirts and turquoise jewelry all summer...

@AC - Geranium is sooo fab you will love it!

@Toyomi - I thought so too! I think the colours make it stand out, but its pretty small. The only people that actually noticed were people who got really close to me while I was using my hands! I was surprised, I thought I'd get more awkward stares/comments!

@Katie - I'm glad you're a nail art pro and still think this is cute! That means a lot :)

@stingray - Ooo that sounds pretty, I would love to see! *goes to check if you have a blog*

@Melissa - There is something about car lighting isnt there! Be careful with those multichromes and holos girl!!! But I'm glad polish gives you a happy moment in your day - it does that for me too :)

@The Nail Buff - Why thank you! What a nice thing to say!

@Courtney - The bobby pin thing was kind of impromptu but worked so well!! I just bent one nice and wide so I could use one end at a time. Definitely give it a shot in lieu of a dotting tool.

@greeneyespinknails - Thanks - and I'm checking out your blog!

@Alaina - The glossiness is courtesy of my BFF Seche Vite!

@beachgal - I'm so so so glad you like it!! I've never dared to try the striping tool things...it scares me! Please be a copy cat and try this - I'd love to see it! I have the same issue with intricate nail art - it typically doesn't go with my dressing style, which like you, is classic!

I like it. My 'art' is limited to dot flowers (one color dot in middle, five complimentary dot petals) and everyone seems to like it. While the complicated stuff is pretty to look at, it would drive me bonkers to wear.

ETA: trystsin ... how Freudian is that, lol.

I don't think nail art has to go "all out" to be fun. The dots are a simple accent that I like. And as long as you like it, who cares. I was hesitant about nail art, but I get compliments at work when I do anything, even if it is something simple. My most recent was the 'newsprint' nails, which are super easy and don't even require a steady hand!

Jenny said...

I'm really tired of seeing overly-complicated nail art lately, so this is refreshing and really cute! I like it a lot!

kittytokaren said...

@Sandi - I like your simple art too :) Was "trystsin" your confirmation-that-you're-not-a-spammer word???

@Sophia - I've never tried newsprint nails, but have always liked them! You say its easy? Hmm...must try this...

@Jenny - I'm so glad you like it!

This is adorable. I tried to do polka dots and it didn't turn out to well! I suck at nail art. I just admire other peoples artwork.

kittytokaren said...

@Lucy - Oh no it didn't work!? I want to see!! I bet you don't suck as bad as you think :)

I did nail art all the time before I started my blog. I did zebra stripes, bumble bees, glitter, you name it I did it.

Sandi said...

Yup K2K, my confirmation word. Can't quite believe that was a random, monkey at the keyboard combo, lol.

I'm on vacay in St Louis and turned a young NP lover on to polish blogs (and of course sent her to my top faves). She immediately zeroed in on your nail art in this post and was sporting it with a Ruby Pumps base in a matter of hours. So, lots of us like our art simple!

kittytokaren said...

@Mariah - Did you stop doing it once you started blogging?

@Sandi - That is so cool!!! You turned someone! :P If your young NP lover friend is reading this - Hello and welcome!! I'm so flattered that you tried this out. :) <3

I love this! I'm slowly getting into nail art and work in a fairly conservative office so this is a perfect subtle but fun little art! I have to say that it was harder than I thought it would be since I didn't have any bobby pins. After a safety pin fail I used a pointy mail opener! Where do you put the brush when dipping and dotting? I found it difficult to juggle so many things!

nekodansu said...

that's adorable, I like the colour contrast!

I've been doing nail art for over a year or so, mostly hand painted flowers and such.
