I hope you guys don't mind that I share some of my "polish fails" with you. I sometimes feel like all I do is rave about polishes, and never show you the ones that don't quite make the grade, so I've dabbled in sharing the ones that look less-than-amazing on me - like Essie Navigate Her. Honestly, I usually end up taking them off and getting rid of them so quickly, I don't have time to take pics! But this one I did mull over longer, only because it was quite popular and a dupe for a MEGA popular polish. This is of course, OPI Just Spotted the Lizard...
Widely acknowledged to be a dupe for Chanel Peridot (I wouldn't know - never had it), this is a crazy interesting polish, especially in the bottle! It seems to flash green, gold or even blue in the bottle, and really is quite entrancing. However, on my nails it just seems to stay this one colour that you see in the pic above - something akin to a substance that might come out of a baby from time to time. Not cute. Maybe it's my skin, I don't know, but I pretty well hate it. I made myself wear it for a full day to see it in different lights, and it was torture.
I was a little hesitant to post my true feelings, but I figured I had to be honest!
What do YOU think of OPI Just Spotted the Lizard? Or Chanel Peridot for that matter?

I'm sure I would feel the same way. I bought Butter London's Wallis and got the same horrible result. I avoid green-golds now like the plague.
I also don't care for this one, or for its dupe, Chanel... I also don't like Orly Space Cadet that other girls love, or bright greens!! I think that's what makes us unique and interesting!!
Hmm i have the Chanel peridot and i love that polish. The colorshifting is amazing on my nails.
But i can understand why you dont like it. On your pictures the OPI one looks kind of boring.

I'm wearing it right now & love it! I get a lot of coloring shifting in mine though. This is day 3 of wearing it & no chips so far, but it did take a while to day. That part I didn't like. Sorry it didn't work for you:(
I meant to say took a while to DRY not DAY....duh on me..LOL
I'm sorry to hear that this polish didn't work for you! I've only worn it once (that's what happens when you have like 540 untrieds XD) and I loved it. Have you gotten anything else from the collection?
Bah, me too. I got a mini-bottle from a friend and put it on for the first time yesterday. My biggest concern was going to be the brushstrokes, but nope, it went on fine, but yeah - it's just a plain, metallic green on me. No duochrome at all, not like in the bottle. So disappointed. :(
I am avoiding it because I have a history of colors like this also looking like baby puke on me (I think that's the end of the baby you were referring to...LOL).
And yes, I think you should be comfortable showing us your fails as well as your raves. It helps us out here, IMHO, to choose our polishes more accurately. ;)
Yeah! Someone else who is not goofy for this color. I tripped up and fell for the hype over all 3 of the Chanel releases summer 2011 and bought Peridot. It just never was right - looked too gold or something and I did not get all the hype. Since then, I have bought a few close dupes and same thing. Do have to say Spotted The Lizard has far better formula than Peridot. If someone loves this one or this shade range, don't spend the $ for Peridot. Get this one. The application is really good on this, esp compared to other Peridot dupes and Peridot itself is really watery. I never see the flash of duochome on this but in the bottle as you said. Most look too top finish of cheap gold foil for my taste. This one has a tish more depth of green mixed in that gold, but still not a fan as I said.
i looove this polish, but it does a lot of color shifting on me rather than staying still. Also, I love putting Ozotic 531 (one of the mishmash ones) over it. Yum! But I know you don't like holos, so I'm sure that's not a good idea for you, LOL...
I tried to find a backup bottle the last few times I was out, I love it that much! It rocked on the beach, for sure, when we were there last month.
I also hate this polish. I put a green glitter over it so I could stand to wear it for a day. It's just blah.

I actually really liked this polish, though I agree with you on Navigate Her. Greens are so iffy and dependent on skin tone, I never know how it's going to go until that first brush stroke.
I confess that I adore these colors, best of all add a bit of duo chrome and, wow!, I'm happy!
I have to say that there is something really great about Missha HGR01, though, by comparison!
Consider me joining the band, I trapsed into the same polish trap by buying Ciate's dupe for Peridot and Navigate Her. By the end of the day I was willing to chop off my fingers to save me from looking at them :-P
I think this one is really dependent on your skin tone. I think it works well for darker skin tones or yellower skin tones, not pink ones like yours and mine. We just get massive lobster claw XD
I *have* seen it get good reviews, but I knew as soon as I saw this that I could never really wear it.
My husband discouraged me from buying it because he said it looked like a trout! I don't want trout tips nor lobster hands!
I think it would look bad on my darkly tanned olive skin, just bad. I would like to try it once, just to see though.
@Shannon-Lee - Yeah it's just not flattering on me at all. I think if I was more tan it might have a better chance. But I still think it's ugly ;/
@Gosia - Exactly! I'm sure there are tons of girls who rock this like no other. :)
@Anne Mette - Ahh and see, somehow who loves it! (Or at least the Chanel version!) And yeah, on me it's a dud.
@Alltrouble2 - Hmm interesting! I don't remember having a drying issue, but I may have been distracted...
@screamviolence - Oddly enough, I have nothing else from the Spiderman collection! I thought about the grey/white, but saw it and it looked just white....any recs?
@Premee - It is a little brushstrokey for my taste honestly, but the colour is the worst of it. Disappointed is definitely the word.
@Isis04 - That is one end of the baby where this colour comes out, yes....LOL! I will have to stay away from these colours like you do.
@beachgal - *high five* But good rec - I was hoping people with experience in both of them would post!
@Stephanie - LOL yep you got me! If I still had this guy I would send it to you!
@Haley - YIkes...and yeah. Blah.
@Kristen - Exactly! In the bottle held up to your hand you think...this could work...then that one stroke and your nail and you realize.."Oh no. Not at all." Oh well, so many other polishes to love!
@Johanna - I will have to look that one up!
@Christine - Ahhh we stumbled on the same things!! LOL! I felt the same way!
@FedoraHarp - Want to hear something crazy? I have yellow skin. REALLY yellow skin. So much so I can almost never find a foundation match that is pale and yellow enough. Piff can attest to my yellowness level! And this thing makes my hands look RED. Another point against it. (Also I remember I was really cold when I took this pic.)
@lovenailpolish - A trout!! Lol that is hilarious! Dark tan olive skin is the one skin tone I think this might look good on - try it and let me know!
k2k
I never tried this, or Chanel's Peridot. I got Gap Gold Rush though and the duochrome was insane on that! People were like "hey weren't your nails just gold a second ago?"...because they were green all of a sudden. It's awesome.
I feel the same way about Chanel's Peridot... Not my thing.
I'm not a fan of it plain, but it's gorgeous under a full nail stamp! It doesn't lobster me out, but it kind of blends in in a blah way...
From the spiderman collection, I only got the other Chanel dupe and the shatter. The other colors feel like I've seen them before! Number one nemesis (if you don't already have Graphite) is gorgeous!
I also look terrible in green that I love in the bottle - like Navigate Her. I totally know what you mean when you say wearing it was torture. haha.
I'm late to the party on this one but I love this colour! I picked up the mini bottle and picked up a second figuring I'll get some use out of it. Of course I'm new to the nail polish obsession, so maybe I need to try it again with a more critical eye...
Have it on now and I love it.
